Moving Thoughts is a collaboration between Holland based techno producers Stenie B. and Kaj Tyszka. Their second release called Schizophrenia EP, is out on Modular Expansion records and features a quality selection of original tracks and remixes. The original Moving Thoughts tracks are Psychose, a classy minimal techno track with underlying layers of dark atmospheres, and Friction Of A Mind, a tasteful dubby production with subtle funky grooves and tones. Apart from the original tracks, the EP includes three additional remixes. The first one comes from Dave Miller of Abstract Division, transforming Psychose into a harder club track with pounding rhythmic style. The second one is from Invite, who re-imagines Friction of a Mind with a darker approach and minimal textures. The third remix comes from artists George Apergis and Alex Retsis, who envision Psychose through a futuristic bassy techno style, fusing it with elements of oldschool breaks and chords.

Chicago’s Karl Meier & Johnathan Krohn aka Talker properly realise the project’s industrial potential with ‘Hari’, their debut LP for Downwards. Last spotted on a 12″ with expanded version of ‘Cut The Weight’ from the ‘Halha’ compilation, this appearance feels more affected, atmospheric, bitterly resolved. There’s eight tracks on offer, including the monstrous doom copulation of ‘Meniscus’ featuring label-mate, Kerridge, amongst the Eraserhead ambience of ‘Hari’ or the ghostly industrial romance of ‘Image Union’, whilst the bombed-out techno hulk of ‘Behemoth’ and the ‘floor-razing mission, ‘Frame Capture’ more than capably carry the dancefloor weight thru to Ventolin-style breakbeat workout, ‘Anthony’ and the gothic thunder of ‘Phalanx’.

A cynic could argue that Prime Numbers puts out as many remixes of Trus’Me as original material by the UK producer, but this latest collection is still a must for techno DJs. Skudge and French sensation Marcelus’ versions of “Moonlight Kiss” and “Hindsight” respectively provide deep, stripped back techno led by stuttering vocal samples and subsonic tones, while Luke Hess explores a more hypnotic approach with his version of “I Want You”, as strobe-light synths are shot through by grainy rhythms. Truncate and Truss’ remixes are led by nickel-plated drums and juddering, spiky grooves, while Roman Flugel’s version of “Somebody” evolves from electro 808s and Chicago kettle drums into a buzzing, fuzzy siren-led climax.
