Now, the Kompakt stalwart returns with TAKE CONTROL featuring Brazilian duo COME AND HELL, his first original material in 2014 and a perfect tune to ring in the summer.
Fitted with a glitzy array of top-tier remixes, TAKE CONTROL presents itself as a strong addition to GUI BORATTO’s back catalogue, revelling in the kind of hook-driven pop techno that we love so much. Again dropping silky vocals on top of a well-oiled club machinery, the new track enlists the help of fellow Brazilians COME AND HELL and is an obvious contender for the pole position in this year’s dj crates. A wealth of perfectly cast remixes rounds off the release, featuring intriguing takes on the sophisticated source material.
The first out the door are DJs PAREJA, the two Argentinian daredevils responsible for wrecked floors worldwide, thanks to bold releases on gatekeeper imprints such as Cómeme or Huntleys + Palmers. Their version pairs the original’s streamlined vocal with the brutish thump of their other work, sending crowds into a frenzy with the flick of a button. In his revamp, US tracksmith DANNY DAZE teases out a similar amount of propulsion, but finds a different level of cray cray with a break as massive as it is insane. Upcoming Amsterdam hotties WEVAL finalize the package with an irresistibly melodic bassline and epic gauge. Perfect run!

Thom Nagy’s ethereal EP ?Damals? has been heavily tampered with, by artists both close and afar, bringing the tracks closer to the dancefloor, without sacrificing their enigmatic bliss. First up ist the titletrack ?Damals?, remixed by none other than german wonderboy Rampue, who has taken german dancefloors by storm with his epic journeys into emotional, low tempo discohouse. His current effort is no different, clocking in just under 100 bpm, slowly building tension over a pulsating tribal beat and widescreen synths. Clincker, a talented local musician and producer handed in another version of ?Damals?, full of droplets of the original synths, cascading sweetly oblivious over a subtle backdrop of steady pumping beats. Labelmate Eskimo * has taken on Anvari and managed to make the track his own by focusing on a few defining melodic elements and infusing it all with his well balanced percussive swagger. Finally, Nik Frankenberg’s take on ?Sunk? hijacks the already somewhat sinister and dissonant original riff and wraps it in layers of swirling hihats, cavernous bass and synthpulses, ending the EP on a decidedly heavier note.

Origami Sound have hit the jackpot with this latest EP by the one like Joefarr. If you’re expecting tame lounge-house then this certainly won’t do – it’s pure break-led floor music made for the punishers. If you’re into jungle but are tired of the format then this is the stuff – a chunky mass of hard-hitting snares, hefty kicks and some of that neurofunk. For the latest installment in their eponymous mix series, Berlin’s Watergate club has turned to resident DJ La Fleur, AKA Swedish producer Sanna Engdahl. The Power Plant boss delivers a typically fluid mix, gradually shifting through the gears in impressive fashion. “Opal Tapes’ Patricia and synth-o-naut Jahlliya Fields team up as Inhalants for three mind-bending, abstract-yet-functional deep techno kicks on L.I.E.S. For our 2p, it’s the best we’ve heard from either artist, hitting a sweep spit dead on between Fields’ cosmic trips and Patricia’s shifty, tracky dancefloor patterns. The eponymous A-side carries a tangled, frayed mass of fluid, gritty synth modulations on a swinging, perpetual techno motion coming off like a frazzled Terrence Dixon groove. Another excellent record to emerge from the L.I.E.S. camp.. I was wondering if Patricia would turn up on the L.I.E.S. release schedule in one form or another. Patricia and Jahilyya Fields working together seem like a logical collaboration, and the results of it are impressive. My tip is on ‘There Are Cops Around’.
