Polypsilon, Part 1 is – as the title implies – the first half of two separate 60-minute cassette releases, and the first tape released at RP!

As a Milieu album, Polypsilon is possibly the most “genre music” type thing Milieu has done, filled with all the staples of feel-good braindance as well as my first foray into acid. The recording sessions were impulsive and tangential, and by the end, there was far more material than I was expecting to make, giving way to this two-part release.

It’s probably a spiritual follow-up to Academy Stripes, although it should be noted that Polypsilon was intended to be a sidetrack thing, and not “the next big new Milieu record”, so I guess consider it as a gigantic 2 hour EP.

I can’t really think about how to describe it, so I’ll leave you with the music. There’s lots of 606/707/808 drum machine action, as well as my usual soft spot for a couple breaks and my Korg ER-1, and the synths used include my Roland SH-32, Casio PSS-50 and MT-210, the wonderful Fahtacon softsynth made by my friend Robin and of course the Milieu go-to Lowrey Magic Genie organ, among other things. Everything was meant to be loose, sporadic, playful and tingly on the earlobes, so hopefully that comes through in the final result.

Octavcat are brothers Rich and Matt Cawte, alongside motion graphics artist Jamie Bradshaw. They return to Uncharted Audio with a new album of crunchy melodic tunes. Created from a variety of ageing electronic boxes, this album is dedicated to all the old gear used by the brothers that has ended up on ebay or in the skip.

Previously releasing their “Hard As Snails” LP for Uncharted Audio as well as featuring on U-Cover, Unlabel and Blacknight, most recently (on top of astonishing the top London venue Koko with their mesmerising live A/V set) they were selected from a pool of over 4000 submissions to be included on Bleep.com’s “Filtered” compilation project which was put together in association with Warp Records and Soundcloud, which found them in good company. This is quite simply timeless, classic UK electronic music.

This album is the meeting between 2 great composers active in the wider industrial fields. Geomatic belongs to the most creative generation of talented composers, which is mainly inspired by tribal & IDM. Andrew Lagowski is an old servant of the industrial scene who explored multiple creative grounds, got involved in numerous collaborations and projects.
The idea behind this concept deals with ancestral dimensional coding, space, science and the unseen. “Cosmochemistry” is meant to be the symbolic key to enter in new/other dimensions. The concept sounds a bit surreal, but musically this opus is a brilliant production.
Geomatic remains faithful to its typical Eastern-mystic atmospheres and tribal influences we discovered on outstanding albums like “Blue Beam” and “64 Light Years Away”. The input of Lagowski appears in the darker and sometimes experimental passages of this work.

The album features 9 cuts, which progressively rise to an absolute apotheosis, and finishes with two brilliant remixes by the french industrial duo Ex_Tension and Dj Element (aka Laurnt Le Fers label manager at M-tronic).
The bewitching Eastern-like atmospheres lead the listener into an imaginary world where he’ll get the impression of becoming a sort of new Indiana Jones in search of an old secret. The down tempo rhythms inject a sexy, tribal and essential element to the work. It also sounds quite industrial-like although the sophisticated electronic layers and arrangements are pure IDM-like. The rhythms remain a very important item behind this work.

The progression of the tracks left me breathless. Both artists perfectly know the way to built up a song until it reaches a pure sonic orgasm. “Plasma Spirals” is the ultimate track in the genre, which gets you in its grip for more than 8 minutes.

The electronic treatments are absolutely awesome. The tracks were achieved with subtle, little details. Moving in between space-like tones, cold sound waves and Eastern inspired atmospheres this opus brings you in a state of trance. The 2 final cuts are quieter although featuring similar ingredients. It’s a more evasive and ambient format to end the album.

Conclusion: Geomatic remains one of my absolute favorite projects and again reveals a genius taste to create an unique sound while Lagowski is an artist I’ve often admired for similar reasons. “Cosmochemistry” first of all is pure sound chemistry and will be for sure one of the best albums of 2014 !

Perennial electronic troublemakers Mouse On Mars have been particularly active of late with their partnership with Modeselektor’s Monkeytown imprint, and on this latest EP it’s definitely not hard to hear why. There is a strong current of rave energy at work from the moment “Bakerman Is Breaking Bad” kicks off, as a flurry of acid and snapping electro drums get nasty with an old-skool electronica sensibility. “Cream Theme” has its own rose-tinted vision with dazzling chord stabs speaking of outdoor-party optimism as twisted through a juke-grinder. The title track too nods to tricky Chicago-born percussion and arrangement, although in this instance it sidles through a progressive spread of impulsive suites all crammed into five minutes, while “Migmy” says even more for footwork in a fraction of the time.

The sequel to the protozorq release (tonAtom.126) is not “just another remix release”.
weldroid selected some extraordinary electronic artists from around the world to create new versions of his original tracks as the logical and artistical continuation of his own style and works.
AN MOKU’s ambient and harsh reinvention of ‘abandoned’ is as unique as jesse simpson’s cut-up version of ‘in my name’. the osch remix of the same original track ‘abandoned’ is a dreamlike, down-beat treat while the same song inspired poliversa to create an evolving, up-tempo drum-and-bass version. ‘morning blinds’ as seen through the eyes of nonima makes you immediately want to dance or at least nod to the beat (depending on your temper), while the beautiful ‘sleep tight’ is resurrected as an ever-changing, almost dubstep-like, almost completely new song.
and if this release was already completed with illl’s inspiring ‘bipolar disorder’ recreation of a more drum-oriented ‘not you fault baby’ it would already be a fully independent and great release. but this is a weldroid release, and he complemented it with two brand-new original tracks, which as a result makes “protozorq remixes” a nine track release of versatility and awesomeness.
