Walter Jones mid to late ’90s releases on Vigilante and Dow under the Walt J name have really defined the producer as one of the finest exponents of Detroit House, and much of his output from this time was given a welcome reappraisal courtesy of Aaron Siegel’s FIT Sounds label. Despite an absence of almost fifteen years since the last Walt J release, Jones has lost none of his production luster on the basis of this new material for the fledgling French label Unlearn. As you might expect from the title, lead track “Horns Of Plenty” is defined by those chiming horns that combined with the loose drums lend the production an air of ascendancy that is most beguiling. Kondo Mane pair Aurele & Caseer remix the track and add some French crunch and acid tinged depth to proceedings, whilst Walt J lines the flip with two more diverse cuts – do check “Jinx”!
