Tracky ballroom techno bangers from a feverish new talent, NPLGNN on the consistently brilliant Where To Now? label. We’d argue this is one of their strongest releases to date; a fearlessly stripped down and effective set of ‘floor tools mixing a rugged old skool sensibility and romance with an uncompromisingly upfront sense of efficiency. ‘Acid UFO’ deploys bouncing kicks and splashing acid with a murderous swerve, whilst the two parts of ‘Variance’ tessellate the drum patterns of grime, jersey and ballroom beats with OG, brute Chicago class, whereas ‘K’ consolidates the essence of early Detroit, Belgian and UK hardcore with the canniest nerve. Highly recommended!

After a time full of search, pauses, twists and turns in the life of Franco Bianco, one of Argentina’s most eclectic producers, his new work titled “En Lo Profundo” will finally hit the vinyl and digital stores in late October, courtesy of Dilek Records.

The remixes available on the 12” vinyl are delivered by amazingly talented producers like John Tejada, Gabriel Ananda, Cari Lekebusch and Samuel L Session.

True to his beliefs and always discovering new horizons, Franco created three powerful, rhythmic tracks, each with a different story and approach, combining styles as well as experiences. He took his productions to a whole new level, across any boundaries. The origin of this release started with techno and tech house, as the main leading genres, but it quickly became clear that Franco cannot fit nor stick to a precise style, since he lives with total freedom, having abandoned any form of purism.

This launch is a more organic journey than previous productions known from the artist. The three original tracks are meant to be together: they really mean something as a comprehensive whole, starting with the tribal ‘Slick’ and its surprising intro, the strong message inside ‘Un Kolla’ and the essential ‘En Lo Profundo’. This release constantly moves between light and darkness, drawing from feelings and states of mind.

Take ‘Un Kolla’ for example; it’s a composition created to accompany Fortunato Ramos’ poem recited by young Eyen, to vindicate the Kolla Natives. It’s the story of indigenous people from Western Bolivia, Chile and Argentina. It conveys a powerful message to learn from this ethnic culture, such as their respect for the Pachamama and their immeasurable kindness.

The remixes available on the 12” vinyl are delivered by amazingly talented producers like John Tejada, Gabriel Ananda, Cari Lekebusch and Samuel L Session. Inside the digital edition, you will find more original tracks, also together with various brilliant versions of Bruno Pronsato, Yapacc, Faray and Iori Wakasa. Each one of their rework carries a very personal mark from their individual origins and cultures. You will find a perfect balance between dancefloor oriented interpretations and softer versions, a range which will make you appreciate their talents in the best possible way.

This record was lingering, but it was definitely worth the wait. Franco Bianco usually doesn’t release more than one record every two or three years, and this time, he came out stronger than ever, creating a work of outstanding quality. From his originals up to the remixes, this release isn’t following any trends or fashions, and this is what makes it more interesting – and simply human.

Ernesto Ferreyras 2010 debut album for Cadenza, the intricate and balanced El Paraíso De Las Tortugas, was something of a landmark release, not only for the Argentinian DJ and producer, but also for the minimal electronic dance scene, taking the micro-techno genre out of the clubs and into a full length listening experience. Four years on, and Ernesto has certainly lost none of the magic and spark that made his debut long player a keeper. On Some Kind Of Sign, we find the producer seriously in his element, with his production aesthetics at his peak, brimming with ideas, melodies, killer hooks and wonderfully playful percussion across the eleven tracks. Aiming to go somewhat deeper and darker than his debut album, on Some Kind Of Sign Ernesto endevours to go beyond the obvious and easily cliched elements of an electronic LP, capturing the world within the spaces, using otherworldly modulars and field recordings to take the listener to the outer reaches of the albums very heart and soul. Some Kind Of Sign is an album full of elasticated beats and liquid electronics, every track built around highly inventive drum programming and micro-samples. Album opener, Still Waiting, sets the tone with bustling, yet understated, percussion, the soaring strings unfurling at the end of each phrase. Its a long player filled with colour; Cristal Clear feels like a Middle Eastern travelogue, the track awash with an almost street scene like ambience, the purposeful percussion really transporting the listener to another space & time. Astral chugs along at almost a skanking pace, the shakers and drum fills keeping it a dancefloor piece whilst the modular synths bend and worm around the kicks. On tracks like Underwater Lies the synths rain down onto a dubbed out & sultry female vocal, whilst the propelling electro beat and huge sub-bass carve out a most enjoyable aural (subaquatic) ride. Ferreyra really shows what he is capable of in the deep melancholy of The Friend Ive Lost, the saddest of pianos riffs grips your heart and gives it a good tight crush, douses you in reverb and pins you up against epic, taut stringsreleasing you after its two short minutes to get back to the dance on Hide No More. The album closes on Beluga Dance, a riotous and infectious space ride, and a fitting end to an album that most certainly finds Ferreyra stepping up another level with his highly accomplished and polished original dance music, designed not only for the feet but for the head as well, the true hallmarks of great electronic music
