After two very prolific months of French touch music productions with the Justice live album Access All Arenas and the Daft Punk album Random Access Memories, the end of May provided us with a nice surprise: the return of the French group Superfunk, pioneers of this ’90s movement.

On Monday, May 27th, the French duo from Marseille chose to announce their official comeback by launching their first new EP of a long series to come, heralding the end of 2013 with a very promising album. Superfunk, known for many hits in the early 2000s such as “Lucky Star” featuring Ron Carroll , set the bar very high by presenting us with this new top quality EP.

The duo explains that their new album will be more accessible to their early French touch influences, which are “French Touch”, bringing with it their current vision of electronic music gained in recent years. According to Superfunk member Mike 303, it’ll be a real return to their roots.

Wire People is the collaborative effort of Harry Byford working alongside Hypercolour thoroughbreds; Josh Thompson (Bareskin) and Jacob Wiltshire (J.Wiltshire). After sharing a stage with the likes of Clark at Bristol’s forward thinking day festival ‘Arc’, Wire People are set to release their first EP ‘Triangle Vision’ through Get Physical on the 1st July 2013. Friends since secondary school, the Winchester trio exemplify adroit electronic production and instrumental proficiency that transcends their tender age of 18. Expanding on inceptive careers being carved through a series of Hypercolour releases, Triangle Vision evinces an intelligently arranged and richly textured piece of music that effectively communicates the broad skill­set shared by Wire People. With Josh controlling electronic drums and sample triggers, Harry playing guitar and Jacob handling vocals, drums and keys, the piece carries a deeply warm texture from the outset. Through reverberated guitar rises Triangle Vision builds towards a sink into Jacob’s vocals that carries a gentle weight whilst remaining beautifully ethereal. The piece progresses through additive electronic percussion and harmonic development towards a rueful close that demonstrates Jacob’s impressive range. Also included in the package is a remix from Tom Demac. Tom’s take on the piece demonstrates the studio work of an established master using analog equipment, bass synths and drum machines to push the piece from outside into the club in signature fashion.

Is It Balearic side label Magic Wand return with another stunning collection of edits careful conjured by four Balearic wizards at the peak of their game. Our first disco mystic is Al Gobi with “Linda”, a souk groove that takes you straight to North Africa where the air is thick with hookah smoke. From the title my first thoughts were a Linda Di Franco connection but your guess is as good as mine, but what I can say for certain is that this echo drenched number is begging to be given a late night airing. On the A2 Last Waltz take us trans-Atlantic to the land of the sun and sea breeze with their AOR swayer “Really”. Having already had sell out releases on Endless Flight, Futureboogie and Tusk, Last Waltz are certainly ones to watch and they prove their credentials here. On the flipside T2mm stick with the west coast vibe extending the Laurel Canyon groove of “Muskrat Love” into a balearock epic. Finally, the peerless Coyote turn out another belter in the form of “Mamy”, a proper sunkissed, acoustic guitar strumming, accented vocal jam in true balearic fashion. Number Seven in the celebrated series comes jam-packed with four fantastic balearic wonders, respectfully extended and amended. Magic? You bet!
