Yam Who’s ISM label has high expectations of this bold and brassy EP of soaring nu-disco jams from Romanian rising stars Gemini Brothers. It’s not hard to see why. While “Jeckermich” – an unflinchingly positive and rush-inducing fusion of traditional disco elements and nu-disco synths – is good, it’s Pete Herbert’s two gargantuan remixes that really excite. They’re the sort of thing that will have even normally shy dancers grasping for the lasers as if their lives depend on it. There’s a touch of leftfield disco/cosmic rock madness in the shape of Electric Brother collaboration “Blues Ventura” – all twiddly synths, jazz drums, wonky electronics and fiddly guitar solos – which comes backed by a fantastic Idjut Boys style dub disco remix from The Pushamann.

Alessandro Parisi’s alchemical elecronic saga began in 2006. Born in Pordenone, travelling through Venice, Rome and now located in Treviso, Alessandro’s unique retro-futurist soundtrack re-imaginings are Italian through and through. Armed only with a TR707, Roland JX3P and an old Teac 244 Tape Recorder his music is organic, magickal and scary as hell…

La Porta Ermetica EP (and accompanying limited edition CD album) is a journey through mistical realms and Italian fog. All analogue hardware compositions mixed with seemingly EVP recordings of ghosts. Of course, one of these ghosts is the Queen of Italian Coldwave Mushy (Mannequin Records) whose ritualistic collaboration “Centrum in Trigono Centri” spills like ectoplasm from the ears of the possessed. Our special guest remixer for this release is the legendary Brassica (Dissident / Civil Music / Cyberdance / Nocturnes) which sees his cosmified rework of “Hesperius Draco” as a soundtrack to Timberland attending a voodoo ritual in an abandoned Detroit warehouse.

The limited CD contains bonus materials and an exclusive extended remix of Azot et Ignis, by Giallo Disco’s own Vercetti Technicolor, taking the original into uncharted cinematic territory.

Greece-born, Paris-raised, Bremen-based DJ/producer KS French has previously impressed with his tasty reworks of classic disco and electrofunk jams. Here he delivers four more tried-and-tested edits for Diggin’ Deeper. These range from the familiar (a loopy, filter-heavy take on “You Used To Hold Me So Tight”, which sounds like the sort of thing House of Disco would release), to the little known (the similarly filter-heavy ’80s soul bump of “Lovers”). Here, though, he’s at his best when hitting the more straight up disco flavours hard, as the bass-heavy disco-funk bump of “Make Your Body Groove” and hands-in-the-air anthem “Wear It Out” more than prove.
