Since making their debut on Lost My Dog last year, Mountal’s profile has risen dramatically (thanks, mainly, to the success of a sneaky remix of Pharrell’s “Happy”). This sophomore EP builds on their debut, delivering five more chunks of undulating, bass-heavy deep house. Highlights are plentiful, from the “Bar A Thym” style cowbells, riffs and rolling grooves of “Nothing To Undo” and sub-heavy, UKG-influenced wobble of “Masterkill”, to the deep and dreamy flex of the extra-intoxicating title track. That track is given the remix treatment by US house veteran Mr V, who drops two contrasting versions; the tech-tinged deep house shuffle of his Sole Channel Mix, and the sparse-but-attractive electronics and minimal-influenced rhythms of the 2AM Mix.

Tsuba’s “Limited” offshoot has delivered some of the label’s strongest material in recent times. This three-track EP from fast-rising producer Jamie Trench is another high quality release. Opener “Cream”, penned with one-time Say Ahh! man Angus Jefford is particularly delicious. With its addictive, rolling bassline, crunchy handclaps and smooth organs, it has a whiff of classic New Jersey house about it. On “Street Lamps”, Trench opts for a deeper feel – think dreamy pads and drifting chords – whilst retaining the bumpin’, US Garage-influenced grooves that have become a trademark. Best of all, though, is closer “Back In The Flow”, a thrillingly loose and hustlin’ romp through Andres style, soul-flecked deep house.

Nicholas ‘Geena’ Molina is becoming something of a go-to man for Quentin Vandewalle’s Antinote label. The curiously titled On The Top of Deep Heated Fern is his third EP for the label in less than 12 months. As usual, it features tracks that blend raw, Chicago style jackin’ beats with fluid, Balearic-minded electronics and a heightened sense of new age electronics. There’s naturally much to admire, from the thumping, techno-style rhythms and woozy chords of “I Gotta Wear Shades”, to the deep Detroit electronics and spine-tingling breakdowns of “Lunar Substance” and the curiously wide-eyed “Gamma Sector”, whose dreamy, new age melodies mask an uncompromising groove.
