Festival Of The Dead is the new full-length studio album from William Bennett’s Cut Hands, due to be released by Blackest Ever Black on 2xLP, CD and digital formats on October 13th, 2014

This is Cut Hands’ third album to date: the acclaimed Afro Noise I introduced the project in 2011, and 2012’s Black Mamba expanded its feverish vision, preceded by a single of the same name on Blackest Ever Black. 2013 saw the release of the similarly fiery ‘Madwoman’ and ‘Damballah 58′ 12″s (on Downwards and BEB respectively)

After a three year absence, the collaborative project of Ilpo Vaisanen and Dirk Dresselhaus (better known as Schneider TM) yields a new album for their regular haunt Editions Mego, and it’s a subtle beast that rewards patient and attentive ears. “Naked Land” growls and prowls over 26 minutes of mutant groans and drones fizzing with acoustic energy, while “Monolake” brings proceedings down to a more tense, restrained level of disturbing noise. “Colonialists” takes the high-frequency road with a multitude of nerve-jangling soundwaves merging into one slow-release cacophony, and “Quake” finishes off with some grungy distortion reaching towards a twisted kind of musicality.

London’s Merisa Campbell has been a pillar of the Hyperdub roster since her debut in 2009, making waves with her rolling, UK funky-inspired sound and ethereal vocal stylings. (She also runs her own label, Dub Organizer.) She released her first full-length, Playin Me, two years ago, which RA’s review called called “one of 2012’s crossover successes.”

Hyperdub describe Wait ‘Til Night as “an album of sensitive, lo-fi bedroom music,” with lyrical themes that generally focus on romance and sex. Though her broken beat sensibility remains, the new LP reportedly marks a move away from club material in favour of more R&B-influenced sounds. Synth pop and reggae are among the other reference points mentioned, and Campbell apparently raps on the record’s closing track, “3 Of Us.”

The 7th album “Result No. 7” is based on an abstract and analogue idea of sound. Fragments of emotional sound patterns appear only rarely in this overall rough sounding work. Unlike the typical style of Mnemonic, themes are focused on their essentials. Even if the amount of melodies and variations are reduced significantly, every track is full of enthusiasm and drive. “Result No. 7” is characterized by simplicity and clearness, but it is far away from being a minimalistic or monotone album. Overall, the new album combines a wide array of carefully constructed experimental soundscapes and leaves a powerful impression on its listener.
