If there was a Top Of The Pops for DIY electronics, then St Leidal the 2nd‘s slice of sun-kissed exotica heaven would probably be number one for months to come. Up and coming Hungarian producer, András Leidal had explored practically everything between shoegaze and acid before starting his solo project, St Leidal the 2nd in 2009 – he is part of Wedding Acid Group’s trio, whose anthology was released on Farbwechsel this past spring.

Following a couple of self-released EPs and a refined release on 8ounce records, Future Tiberian Baths is András’s most accomplished work to date. Similarly to St Leidal’s previous works, it is a collection of sample laden, beat driven songs that sound like listening to an octopus jamming to a sleazy 80s teenage movie theme from the inside of an aquarium. These eight originals are all built from an almost transparent fabric that melts both your mind and your body, recalling the best moments of vaporwave. What makes St Leidal the 2nd stand out though is his effortless, almost minimalistic approach that lets him fuse hopeful melancholy and nostalgia with an array of influences with suave ease and confidence.

A key member of the Minus family for almost a decade, Jon Gaiser is to release False Light, his third artist album on Richie Hawtin’s label in autumn 2014. The ten-track affair shows the American born, Berlin based techno innovator to have continued to evolve since his last full length and again is a very complete and contemporary techno tale. Since 2005, Gaiser has been at the heart of the minimal techno movement. His hugely atmospheric EPs and LPs have always explored the darker, more stripped back and abstract edges of the dancefloor and have often done so in conjunction with immersive and complimentary live visuals. Says Gaiser of his working methods: “I’ve always been a big fan of analog gear, both old and new. I’m also a big fan of new digital technologies that create sounds that have never been heard before. I prefer to have the best of both analog and digital worlds working together, to make the most creatively flexible production environment as possible.” As well as working as VOID, Gaiser is also a revered live performer who creates immersive on-the-fly soundscapes using Ableton MIDI controllers and Maschine, and regularly performs at some of the world’s best festivals and club nights, including Hawtin’s own ENTER. nights at Space Ibiza. A trained percussionist and sometime punk rock drummer, around the age of 15 Gaiser discovered the underground techno scene in Detroit and “was completely intrigued by the energy of the music” and so began collecting drum machines, synthesizers and FX units to build a studio in his teens. Before long he impressed techno innovator Richie Hawtin, was signed to Minus and soon began releasing on the seminal label. Playing in Europe so often meant the natural thing for him to do was to move to Berlin, and it is from there that his sound has flourished. The new album was written with a specific approach in mind, as Jon explains: “My main idea while working on this album was to go into the studio and have as much fun as possible. I wanted to create something where each track complemented each other, where all of the tracks relate to each other in a way so that the whole album tells a story. But ultimately, I wanted it to be a fun story.”

Cadenza are preparing to release their latest artist album: Ernesto Ferreyra’s El Paraiso De Las Tortugas.

Despite only releasing a single 12-inch through the label — 2009’s Siluetas — it seems Ernesto Ferreyra is very much an integral part of the Cadenza family. The Argentinian producer has been a regular fixture at the imprint’s Sunday night party, Vagabundos, at Pacha in Ibiza this year, and has regularly been entrusted by Luciano to fly the flag for the label at showcase parties across Europe. Ferreyra’s breakthrough can actually be traced back to 2005 and his side project alongside Guillaume Coutu Dumont as Chic Miniature. The duo have released music through Raum…musik, Musique Risquée and Crosstown Rebels, while Ferreyra himself has split his time between labels like Lomidhigh Organic and Cynosure.

El Paraiso De Las Tortugas, or “turtle paradise,” will, however, see the light of day through Cadenza, bringing together 12 previously unreleased tracks. Bearing in mind Ferreyra’s previous singles, work with Guillaume Coutu Dumont, and his habitation of Mexico City, Montreal, Berlin and Ibiza through the years, expect plenty of percussion and a globally sympathetic approach to timbre on
El Paraiso De Las Tortugas.

Turin based producer Yari Malaspina aka OOBE follows up last years’ Opal Tapes-released “SFTCR” cassette with a more clearly defined and uniquely digitized approach to ambient electronica.

Resting melancholy echoes onto slow rave rhythms, “Digitalisea” is a heavy, histrionic set of slow moves into Stargate-mining planetscapes and gaseous, computerized digi-psych. OOBE is deeply cosmic in all of these ultra synthetic dealings with tropes of both ambient techno and classic 90s euphoria, regenerating fragments of both into his own dense, amorphous blur of textural but rhythmic ambience that comes out somewhere between a processed and pixelated Huerco S. and crisply distorted Sci-Fi version of Actress.

“Digitalisea” investigates glitches just under the surfaces of recent distroidian and post-internet sheens as much as the hauntological distant club echos that characterized “SFTCR”. It’s hard to tell if its straight up pitch black or solar-scorched, but it’s always blissed out beneath the claustrophobia.

Having spent plenty of previous tape-spooling minutes shored up at Hospital Productions (as well as Opal Tapes, Silvox and More Records), Exoteric Continent return once more with their gritty, industrial-flavoured techno that edges more towards sonic dread than dance music. The tightly-pressed rhythms tumble out in unforgiving arrangements that lay monochrome textures on heavy and let the drum machines call the shots. There’s space of course for more contemplative production as well, but it still comes daubed in battleship grey for the darker kind of hardware head. That there is so much atmosphere and tension in the music tells you just how skilled the Barcelona-based duo are in their craft.
