The multi-talented Francis Harris returns to his own label for this collaboration with his friend and guitarist Gabe Hedrick. Floods is far removed from Harris’ dance floor work, and on “Now Grey” the pair steer their way through monochrome ambient textures that flow and ebb like the ocean tides. There are some references to the dance floor, albeit only fleetingly, on the title track, where they conjure up the plumes of dubby, Modern Love-style textures that float tantalisingly, while “Blue Sky Shoes” is an immersive deep techno affair. However, this album sounds most impressive at the interface between Harris’ layered sequencing and Hedrick’s gentle but searing guitar playing – check “Snowbird” and the wonderfully evocative “Every New Thing” for further proof.
