Dubaptism is the latest brainchild of TechHead label owners John Karagiannis and PayLipService. Under this new moniker, the multifaceted duo sets off to explore the dub side of techno from their new studio in Berlin. Their debut release includes two original tracks and remixes by profilic producer Nikola Gala and Istanbuls amazingly talented Havantepe. Dubaptisms first session will be out in a limited edition of 300 copies.

‘Ninetynine‘ reaches into the human consciousness, illuminating undiscovered aspects of mind. The ordinary life of the city and other hidden, mystic secrets meld together between complex beats and stark melodies in a work of art that is unique in its diversity. By combining elements of dreamy, atmospheric IDM, breakbeats and world music, and expertly utilizing the deep singing of cello strings, chopped up and arranged to constitute beatwork, Poordream has constructed a listening experience that is both gritty and ethereal.

The mind of Owen Mclean appears to be a chaotic place – the 22 tracks which rarely exceed 2 minutes presented here are impossible to keep up with in the best possible way. This is the work of an imagination that cannot sit still, a place where distorted yet absolutely familiar samples crash head on against solid walls of pulsing noise, where slick pop has been dragged kicking and screaming into the future, forced to adapt or risk self destruction. Owen’s world feels like it could completely collapse at any moment, but always soars when the rubble beckons. Imagine James Ferraro scoring a theatrical adaptation of a JG Ballard short and you’re getting warm.

Confirming Italy as a fertile source of distinctive electronic artists at the moment, another Italian, Morkebla (Alberto Rosso), appears in this batch, teaming up with Jimmy’s new sample-based project, Tihkal, for a spilt tape of submerged ambient/not-ambient. With a release on Where to Now? and one forthcoming on Reckno, Morkebla is ploughing an interesting vein of fugged-up, textural electonica, where percussion clatters as if on the verge of collapse, voices murmur beyond comprehension and synths unsettle as much as they ease. On the flip, Tihkal loops fragments of harmonic synth phrases and crinkled field recordings to craft a phase-shifting collage of blissed-up stumbles.
