On this EP we get three out there diverse tracks with the title cut being a moody rhythmic, heads down yet upbeat percussion driven affair. ‘Jakobs Dream’ steps into the abstract tweaked out techno world, while ‘Huh’ which fills the entire b-side is a massive massive electro cut for the floor.

Previously known for some sleek productions on Construct Re-Form and Syncrophone, the Paris-based producer and DJ Voiski was a surprise addition to the LIES Records juggernaut last year, but his label debut IAI Movement proved to be one of their most popular releases. It makes perfect sense for Ron Morelli to offer a further grip of Voiski productions with the superbly titled and superb sounding Culture To Trash 12″. It’s fairly impossible not to get lost in the rich palette of sound that is the 10 minute A Side track “Wax Fashion” in full flight, and much the same can be said for the closing track “Eccentric Habits”. Sandwiched inbetween is the brutal floor crusher “Bloodthirsty Romantic Shark” (what a name!) which demands repeat play at very loud volume.

Sandro Stebnitz, Manito Rotschild, and Dieter Flegel met in the late-nineties in Oldenburg Germany while working on the loading dock of the Leifheit Housewares shipping division. Through their monotonous days of shrink wrapping ovens and loading palettes of stainless steel cookware onto tractor trailers, the trio would often relay tall tales to each other simply to pass the time. One such delusional fantasy was that the trio would one day ditch their warehouse jobs and start a band not unlike their mutual hero, Gary Numan.

Their fantasy became somewhat of a reality when Dieter gained access to various pieces of musical equipment when his uncle Hans came upon a sudden and untimely death. Unphased by this tragic event, Dieter rallied up his small group and hit the garage, practicing and recording every evening in hopes of making it, just like Gary did.

Here we have on record, the only document of their time in the makeshift studio, a 15 minute electronic jam simply titled “Sketch 1”

We hope you enjoy listening to this just as much as Sandro, Manito, and Dieter did making it.

“Opal Tapes’ Patricia and synth-o-naut Jahlliya Fields team up as Inhalants for three mind-bending, abstract-yet-functional deep techno kicks on L.I.E.S. For our 2p, it’s the best we’ve heard from either artist, hitting a sweep spit dead on between Fields’ cosmic trips and Patricia’s shifty, tracky dancefloor patterns. The eponymous A-side carries a tangled, frayed mass of fluid, gritty synth modulations on a swinging, perpetual techno motion coming off like a frazzled Terrence Dixon groove. Another excellent record to emerge from the L.I.E.S. camp.. I was wondering if Patricia would turn up on the L.I.E.S. release schedule in one form or another. Patricia and Jahilyya Fields working together seem like a logical collaboration, and the results of it are impressive. My tip is on ‘There Are Cops Around’.

This Society sees Florian Kupfer return to L.I.ES. faced with the conundrum that so many rising producers have to contend with; how to follow up what was one of last year’s true crossover records in the shape of Lifetrax. Such was the power of that helium voiced B Side “Feelin”, Kupfer’s White Label debut for Ron the Don’s LIES operation has been granted two represses on the main label – the most recent a EU edition remastered by Matt Colton! If you gripped Kupfer’s contribution to the Funkysouls-baiting Russian Torrent Versions label, you’ll not be surprised to find the German producer trading in a more hard-edged techno sound on the title track to This Society. No warbling Minnie Mouse vocals here, instead it’s a weighty, crashing number worthy of Bunker, which contrasts nicely with the more musically framed “Resistors”. Best of all however is the B Side cut “Reach Another System” which can best be described as a turbo charged MCDE.

One of L.I.E.S. most promising artists pays up a superb session of sub-aquatic house murk on ‘Porte Maillot’. A-side ‘Fleuve’ works right up our alley with tumbling voodoo drums and woozy pads like some soundtrack to being chased by evil spirits thru swampland at midnight. Not sure if that’s what you want in a club, but we wouldn’t say no. Similarly , ‘Laghi Sotterranei’ isolates the same sort of mystic tension at a much slower pace, whilst B-side ‘Kohle (Beats)’ ups the ante with bristling drum patterns and insistent bass surges layered with psychoactive samples drawing the ear outwards, and ‘Archives’ clocks out with a darker abstract tape vignette.
