Thom Nagy’s ethereal EP ?Damals? has been heavily tampered with, by artists both close and afar, bringing the tracks closer to the dancefloor, without sacrificing their enigmatic bliss. First up ist the titletrack ?Damals?, remixed by none other than german wonderboy Rampue, who has taken german dancefloors by storm with his epic journeys into emotional, low tempo discohouse. His current effort is no different, clocking in just under 100 bpm, slowly building tension over a pulsating tribal beat and widescreen synths. Clincker, a talented local musician and producer handed in another version of ?Damals?, full of droplets of the original synths, cascading sweetly oblivious over a subtle backdrop of steady pumping beats. Labelmate Eskimo * has taken on Anvari and managed to make the track his own by focusing on a few defining melodic elements and infusing it all with his well balanced percussive swagger. Finally, Nik Frankenberg’s take on ?Sunk? hijacks the already somewhat sinister and dissonant original riff and wraps it in layers of swirling hihats, cavernous bass and synthpulses, ending the EP on a decidedly heavier note.

Origami Sound have hit the jackpot with this latest EP by the one like Joefarr. If you’re expecting tame lounge-house then this certainly won’t do – it’s pure break-led floor music made for the punishers. If you’re into jungle but are tired of the format then this is the stuff – a chunky mass of hard-hitting snares, hefty kicks and some of that neurofunk. Fans of Koehler and the Bristol hybrid sound will be all over this – highly recommended.

For the latest installment in their eponymous mix series, Berlin’s Watergate club has turned to resident DJ La Fleur, AKA Swedish producer Sanna Engdahl. The Power Plant boss delivers a typically fluid mix, gradually shifting through the gears in impressive fashion. What’s this, Two Acido releases featuring SVN in one week? Dynamo Dreesen you are really spoiling us mate! Acido 17 sees the debut of SP Posse, the new project between Phillip Gelberg and the SUED boss SVN who are both names that will be familiar to Acido completists. Consisting of three untitled productions, SP Posse demonstrates SVN is just as comfortable behind the buttons with Gelberg as he is with Takeshi Wada as Tase or Dynamo Dreesen as Dreesvn. Despite the minimal amount of elements used in each production, there’s a dreamy hypnotic quality to all of them which adds a sense of unity to proceedings and if we were pushed to pick a favourite it would have to be the underwater tabla grooves of the final production.

“Opal Tapes’ Patricia and synth-o-naut Jahlliya Fields team up as Inhalants for three mind-bending, abstract-yet-functional deep techno kicks on L.I.E.S. For our 2p, it’s the best we’ve heard from either artist, hitting a sweep spit dead on between Fields’ cosmic trips and Patricia’s shifty, tracky dancefloor patterns. The eponymous A-side carries a tangled, frayed mass of fluid, gritty synth modulations on a swinging, perpetual techno motion coming off like a frazzled Terrence Dixon groove. Another excellent record to emerge from the L.I.E.S. camp.. I was wondering if Patricia would turn up on the L.I.E.S. release schedule in one form or another. Patricia and Jahilyya Fields working together seem like a logical collaboration, and the results of it are impressive. My tip is on ‘There Are Cops Around’.

PG Sounds may be a new name for the SUED cause, but the duo behind the music will be more than familiar to anyone that’s kept tabs on this cultish Berlin label. Credits for this Untitled 12″ see SUED boss SVN as producer and his S.P. Posse partner Philip Gelberg as the writer, but regardless of the exact iteration of how PG Sounds are set up the two tracks here fall nicely into the open ended sonic universe that’s grown organically around SUED, Acido and the Sex Tags crew. It’s open to interpretation whether you should play these two fcked up Latin productions at 33rpm or 45rpm (the label suggest the latter) with the A Side sounding great at 33rpm whilst the cowbell laden B Side glides along in it’s own lopsided manner best at a heavily pitched down 45 rpm.
