Gracefully Force Consensus is an hour long split tape between PMM and Tuff Sherm. Two halves of the same whole or two independent artists? Or perhaps one works while the other sleeps?

On this cassette the artists trade tracks instead of the usual side each, PMM’s track titles appear to be lifted from a book on becoming a star while Tuff Sherm’s titles are all named after existing albums. Just how much is in the Tuff Sherm vault?

This tape is staggering in it’s breadth of sound, mood and approach: moments sound like disco 45’s having been given a sandpaper rubdown, other drumless works provide instant enlightenment. Tuff Sherm produces some of his most raw and rugged material so far taking the futuristic primitive approach to new levels of intensity by setting up huge mechanical automatons, lubricated with rain and sweat, that follow their own relentless path until a rainbow appears in the room. PMM resides in the chasm between music and non-music: gnarled tone poetry, metallic clangs and overblown keys.

The Trilogy Tapes label signal the start of a potentially devastating series of releases with the Burglar Loops EP from Tuff Sherm, the slightly less leaned on production alias of Eugene Hector, the tireless Australian producer known to most as Dro Carey. Hector’s appeared on Will Bankhead’s label under both aliases previously, most recently under the Tuff Sherm banner with the Pharmacy EP, whose understated take on house music has shades of Kassem Mosse’s monochromatic productions. Hector is seemingly in a much rowdier mood here as the opening track “Cleric” demonstrates, seemingly culling influences from the last decade of niche house movements and cramming them in the spaces between a booming kick drum. Elsewhere, the title track sees Sherm opt for the abstract approach with a vocal sample that lends the production a certain degree of ghetto roughness that doesn’t detract from it’s overall affecting nature. With 12″s from _moonraker, DJ Spider & Marshalitto and obscure Youtube presence Rezettstill to come it feels like 2013 is going to be The Trilogy Tapes finest year thus far.
