It’s always a pleasure when Sare Havlicek brings something to Nang HQ and obviously, this single is no exception! 12 inches of disco groove served up and ready for the masses. This time Sare has not come alone though, ‘Insinuations and Allusions’ has been called upon for some serious remixes, featuring the likes of Inigo & Dan Solo; Copycat & Martin Brodin; Tiger Cubes and Sasha Kojevin, you can bet on a seriously heavy release. The original mix roles straight out from the needle with subdued nu-disco tones that gradually benefit from the enhancements of the funky guitar stabs. The mix has a steady groove that is a subtle back tone for those sunny summer afternoon parties. Inigo & Dan Solo ehance on the funk aspect of the mix, getting those guitars to the front of the mix and encouraging your body to get those early dance floor moves flowing. Copycat & Brodin go for more of a meaty, dance vibe. Ramping up the beats and knocking back the disco edge they create a slightly more cosmic, progressive composition that has ‘Ibiza Beach Party’ written all over it. One of our more recent signings at Nang – Tiger Cubes have come at the remix with a cracking cyber style to the mix, playing on the vocals but giving the mix a wonderfully subtle relaxed twist. Sasha Kojevin has delivered a captavating remix that boasts light-hearted melodic groove from start to finish, a brilliant cap to this awesome single.

Up first, Get Down Edit’s head honcho flips the Bob James “Spunky” sample Moodymann based “Shades of Jae” on into a relentlessly bouncing midtempo disco house gem. It keeps all the wonderful rhodes noodles, but lets the 4/4 take the lead for when the dancefloor isn’t ready for some beatless and rough Detroit action. Up next, oh my word, Fingerman has looped up Luther to devastating effect. “Too Much” is one of the naughtiest edits I’ve heard in a long time, the way that guitar lick rolls over one of the fattest bottom ends this side of the Grand National keeps your head nodding for days before Fingerman lets the original play out.
If “S’Punk” was GDE’s peak time number, “Heaven Sent” is the after hours jam. On this one Stanley Clarke gets put through the wringer for some early morning heavy boogie, sublime. Deadly Sins are given the unenviable task of closing a stella release and do it in fine form. “I Left My Heart” is a groove driven disco rub of Ned Doheny’s “To Prove My Love”, now with a bigger bump and all those sultry touches from the original intact.

‘Timelines’ is the new LP from British house producer and DJ Luke Solomon. Alongside Luke’s original productions the album features a selection of handpicked remixes and the album presented as a continuous mix. Luke Solomon’s influence on house music has been strongly felt for many years. As a DJ and promoter he pioneered mid-week London clubbing with his legendary Space night alongside the late, great Kenny Hawkes. As a producer he has constantly delivered original, often idiosyncratic and always unique house music (and beyond) for an enviable list of imprints. As an A&R he has helped develop many a career (Tiefschwarz, Freeform Five and Isolee to name but a few) with Classic Music Company, and continues to do so with Classic and his new role as one of Defected’s A&R team. Speaking about making ‘Timelines’ Luke had this to say. “It is an album that I have been making and remaking over the last six years. I started work on it off of the back of The Difference Engine (Rekids), my last album under my own name. The idea was to make the album part of a trilogy, this one being representative of my more Balearic roots. The original version that was completed fell on deaf ears quite considerably and it became a bit of a sticking point for me. I decided to put it to one side and in the process started working on some other music, which in turn, helped me stumble across new sounds and production techniques. The initial idea was to work on a series of songs that represented significant points in my life, both lyrically and musically. It then became more relevant to the six years of writing and producing the album. A lot of shit happened, and I was able to pour it into finally completing the album. I then decided to keep the album guarded and close as it had become that personal. I didn’t want the album to be effected by opinions of those that were too close to me and the music. What I ended up with is something that has come straight from the heart, made possible by joining forces with a whole stack of talented musicians and singers over the last six years.” ‘Timelines’ is, as even the incredibly humble and self-effacing Solomon would agree, his best work to date, featuring contributions from Jon Marsh, Natalie Broomes, Terry Grant and Tiger Tiger. It’s also an album which is heavily song and musician focused, setting its stall out as a real listening experience from the off. A cohesive, deeply personal labour of love that is the culmination of years of work and countless emotional trials and tribulations.
