‘Trap Door doesn’t make trap. Instead, Manchester-based Connor Shepherd constructs
exquisite club compositions while applying a stripped down, retro aesthetic to contemporary
dance music. As part of the Gang Fatale collective alongside the likes of Neana, Ra’s Al and
Georgia Girls, Trap Door is at the forefront of the percussive, linear club music that draws
from both sides of the Atlantic. At times, Shepherd sounds like he’s channeling the spirit of
Arabian Prince, infusing euphoric synth melodies into a melange of abrasive kicks and snares.
Other times, he’s clearly looking to the Atlantic seaboard, utilizing vocal cuts, “ha” samples
and kick patterns from Baltimore, Philladelphia, Jersey and New York. The Trap Door sound is
decidedly fresh and new, but always emits a cool, calm and collected attitude that transcends
the ephemeral qualities of the club trax format

Emotions, Melody and Rhythm. Those are the keywords to describe Jin Choi’s new release on Serialism Records, ?Delirium Ep?. The Berlin based artist has already been on the spotlight with the Serialism team for his release “Full Range” (with Maceo Plex on rmx duty) a couple of years ago. His peculiar sound has developed even more since back then, leaving a special mark on the electronic music by spreading its uniqueness via well respected labels such as Lessizmore, Contexterrior as well as his own imprint Private Gold. The original tunes are solid musical journeys crossing over Techno and Dubstep, somewhere between the Berlin and London sound, sometimes between the Past and the Future. Romantically charged of emotions and broken rhythms. Delirium ep also includes a minimal avant-garde re-visit by Jazz musician David Koch aka DeWalta from the Vakant and Meander family.

Joining Recycled Plastics’ expanding roster is Andre Zufall, better known to many of you as Mon0. Having released several excellent albums on Kreislauf, Test Tube, Silent Season and Sublime Porte, he has spent quite some time refining his own special brand of deep ambient drones and rhythmic pulsing techno.

Monophon is possibly Recycled Plastics’ deepest release yet, in terms of complete disconnected minimalist techno – longform tracks filled with dark passages of drones and rumbling low end, which eventually give way to womblike rhythms and organic percussive elements that build up like a storm cloud. Mon0 is a master of hypnotizing you with frequency alone, before gradually lifting up the curtain and revealing the alien machinery he’s built to receive and capture the raw slow breath of the cosmos.

Having previously largely focused on re-edits and reworks, Russian producer Bachteen makes the move into original production with a first EP for Alkalino’s Audaz imprint. His production style is effortless and fluid, with opener “Raw Draw” lacing classic house riffs and sparkling pianos over pitched-down vocals and a typically tactile groove. “All I Got” is a little chunkier in the groove department, with picturesque melodies and twinkling riffs riding a darting bassline and handclap-heavy percussion. Alkalino remixes the latter track, fusing woozy electronics and warm organ stabs with loose, swinging, disco-influenced beats. It’s a looser, slower and altogether groovier take on Bachteen’s original.
