A long and distinguished recording career for the always faithful Norm Talley has been lacking something Tsuba shapes until now, so kudos to Kev Griffiths for coaxing three drops of powerfully deep and danceable house from the Westside Detroiter. Each track here offers a different mood with A-side cut “Mid-Nite Madd-Ness” the peak time burner with classically Detroit house styled cymbal clashes cuing breakdowns, while vamping chords ascend and descend. “Holiday” is the warmer summer house jam with woozy Rhodes on loop, while “One Track Mind” is deep and rhythmic with a sultry vocal to boot.

Tsuba’s “Limited” offshoot has delivered some of the label’s strongest material in recent times. This three-track EP from fast-rising producer Jamie Trench is another high quality release. Opener “Cream”, penned with one-time Say Ahh! man Angus Jefford is particularly delicious. With its addictive, rolling bassline, crunchy handclaps and smooth organs, it has a whiff of classic New Jersey house about it. On “Street Lamps”, Trench opts for a deeper feel – think dreamy pads and drifting chords – whilst retaining the bumpin’, US Garage-influenced grooves that have become a trademark. Best of all, though, is closer “Back In The Flow”, a thrillingly loose and hustlin’ romp through Andres style, soul-flecked deep house.

Tsuba boss Kevin Griffiths has always been good at selecting remixers, as this six-track collection of historic reworks from US-based house producers proves. With MK, Chez Damier, DJ Sneak and Larry Heard all contributing, there’s a heavyweight, high-profile feel to proceedings. It’s arguably Damier’s warm, loose, bumpin’ and decidedly epic rework of Sacha Dive’s “Jus Groove” that stands out, just edging out Heard’s warm and enveloping take on Moodymanc’s “Black Paint”. Elsewhere, new school US hero Aybee delivers a smooth, bleep-heavy tech-house interpretation of Ethyl and Huxley’s “Reflections”, while DJ Sneak drops a surprisingly electronic re-interpretation of former Peace Division man Justin Drake’s “Gotta Let Me Know”.

First hinted at on Galcher Lustwerk’s Beats in Space appearance a few months ago, the breakthrough producer’s Nu Day EP on Tsuba arrives with quite some expectation, especially given the sellout White Material 12″ from last year was his last full release. Thankfully, it more than lives up to that fabled record, with four sumptuous deep house tracks with all of Lustwerk’s trademark vocal charm. Opening track “Fate” is a heady instrumental reminiscent of the transitions in his mythical 100% Galcher mix, while “Nu Day 2” is a more driving combination of thickly filtered synth chords and crisp drum machine rhythms. The flip sees two classic Galcher vocal excursions, with “Nu Day 2” and “Chillin’ in the Booth” filled with just as much charm as we’d expect from the man. This is vinyl only—don’t sleep!

Mr KS has made a significant start to his musical career with his debut release on Djebalis revered label, also being the first artist to appear on the imprint other than Djebali himself. His impressive debut immediately caught our attention at Tsuba towers and reminded us of a young Dyed Soundorom, demonstrating a certain edge to his grooves coupled with crisp and powerful production. This promising start continues on this second Mr KS release, the Making Beats EP. The lead cut shows his penchant for a killer groove coupled with a distinctive spoken word vocal about a passion for making beats. B1 Thats Right walks a similar path with an undeniably groovy and swinging bassline and B2 Building shows Mr KS is no one trick pony with a deeper slower vibe.
