An addendum of sorts to his recent ‘Faint Hearted’ album, Miles’ returns with a half-hour EP more squarely aimed at the floor with four darkened, robust variants. ‘Blatant Statement’ is up first, slowly emerging from a rough alignment of metallic percussion and abrasive stabs not a million miles removed from the kind of racket you’d most likely associate with Vatican Shadow, before the almost-clipped rub of those super-warm bass stabs shifts the perspective to a different kind of environment altogether. ‘Technocracy’ delivers an oozing House deconstruction, slowed down and inebriated, while ‘Infinite Jest’ revolves around an industrial cacophony harnessed into a rhythmic anomaly situated somewhere between a technofied Pete Swanson and a sweaty Kassem Mosse. ‘Plutocracy’ ends the set with a bleached-out warehouse chug, slowed down and menacing, surrounded by a submerged choral arrangement and more of that toughened hammered-metal sound that runs through the EP.

Born in the small town Badhoevedorp, located just outside of Amsterdam, Roel came in touch with Traum in 2007 when he remixed Minilogues “The Leopard”. He has recently done a remix for Ryan Davis & Electric Rescue on Traum and a compilation track on “Tour De Traum V” which put him on the map as a skilful and serious recordings artist writing unique music. Roel also gave his debut on the Traum label night in Groningen’s Grand Theatre together with Max Cooper, Mononoid and Ryan Davis in February.We are happy Roel has now written 4 new tracks for Traum which show his potential to compose music which connects skilfully themes often antagonistic to create one whole piece of art.Roels music is daring, organic and crispy as a Durum flake, full stop. Roels EP starts with the track “Crimson”, a nicely distorted and euphoric Francophile flavoured melody that is carried by unrelenting rhythms that create a rush through various emotional stages of his. In fact it is very much an epic symphony for the senses, a journey through a garden full of flowers… playful and at the same time moody and last but not least something deeply personal and idiosyncratic.Witness Roels sound design his ear catching leads garnished with arrangement nuances that sparkle and shimmer like a glass of champagne. Saying that the track is already over and “Game Over” starts.A haunting sequence meets, small noise cascades and and sees an electrifying bassline take the lead in an exiting track to unfold.Wait a minute and you can hear a mesmerizing synth being dropped from out of the deepest corners of his soul.Roel twists sequences like Nathan Fake at his best and makes this track a big feast for the senses which you don’t want to end. The remix of “Game Over” by Mononoid and puts them on the map for electronic music again in a big way.Mononoid have created a separate track out of the samples resulting in a highly hypnotic piece of deep melodic techno entirely suited to the peak time dance floor. Mononoid have become masters in their own genre and this heady groove of theirs continues to roll and evolve right until the lights go out. Game over. “Next To The Neon Light” is no homage to Kraftwerk but a shiny piece of a broken beat epic, melodic, uplifting tune that at times wraps one in a cloak melancholy. This track has such a strong and sonic feeling that it makes your your skin crawl. “Sugar Rush” shows Roels other side, letting orchestral sounds collide with sequential tones foreshadowing a “mad world” full of traffic where there is still a place for lush melodies and peace. This track will pull you from your seats and have you throw your arms in the air.

S/EXP lives in a place where the music is hidden behind a dense fog and dreams are suffocated by an unpromising reality. This stimulates him to continue his research of magical places around the world, being them ethereal landscapes, deep cenotes or blue seas. In those places he discovered and created new sounds, melodies and rhythms that melted together create soundscapes for escape.
The Shade’s Journey is the debut album of the young producer Emanuele Pertoldi under the moniker S/EXP formerly known to be part of the Evasion Room project. The album consists in twelve tracks of deep techno and ambient music written and composed using mainly hardware synths and drum machines.
Classic deep tracks such as “The Beginning”, “Shy Land” and “Atlantis” are followed by more experimental and darker sounds as “Lost In Marrakech”.
Styles alternate between sci-fi ambient soundscapes “Take Off To The Gray”and “Indigo Interlude”. Padded techno tracks like “Distant Horizon” adds some dub suggestions reminding Porter Ricks outputs on Chain Reaction.
The bonus track Indigo Oasis ends the album with an injection of electro and blissful pads recalling Detroit melodies from the past.

In the same vein as her recently launched MOOD imprint, Believe is suited to a number of atmospheres and settings. Across the nine original productions and one collaboration with label boss Adam Beyer, Nicole has crafted a sonically diverse long-player of sounds which draw on the plethora of styles electronic music has to offer. From her accustomed techno to twisted house and everything in-between, the stylistic variety on offer means cuts Believe will easily feature in more intimate settings and big-room venues alike. Believe features a host of tracks aimed squarely at the clubs. From the moody Movin On, the bass-heavy Do Your Thing, to the industrial techno grooves on Come And Lay and the hypnotic chanting vocal on Get On It, the techno-aficionados will not be disappointed with what is sublime set of cuts that will no doubt destroy any dance-floor. In contrast however, there are more intimate moments to be found. For example the rhythmically entrancing yet uplifting Fly With You, to Liberum Spirita with its mazy ethereal breakdown, and the synth-heavy percussive builder Lumière Tamisée. Nicoles further flexes her production muscle with the stripped back dub-flavours of Big Love With No Apology, and a robotic groove-laden funk on the standout Can I Get Some. Believe delivers a consummate body of work with which Nicoles considerable abilities in the studio are clear for all to hear. A wide-range of sounds that is sure to appeal to the idiosyncratic tastes of the various sub-sections of electronic music community. Furthermore, it lives up to the high-standards of previous Drumcode long-players and is an engrossing and impressive debut; and one that offers a smooth segue into the next chapter of an already exciting career.
