Liverpool resident, Artette has forged a considerable reputation for producing a blend of texture, atmosphere and melodic ambience, ably illustrated in his track “Marina”, for the “Skylab – 2013 Spring 2012” compilation and for the 2011 palindrome entitled “Ettetra” EP, both on Apollo. Furthermore, as head of the Etoka imprint, Artette has advanced the causes of deep house, electronica and downtempo with a host of impressive releases and eye-catching artwork. With the origins of Artette’s track unknown, serendipitous themes are kept in tact with Proton’s very own AandR guru, Marina Gerardi, expertly drawing together four fine exponents of their craft from across Europe to take on remix duties of “Marina”. Greek producer, nikosf. has always felt an affinity with “the sounds of nature” which, in turn, provide the essence of his production process. With work on the Ready Mix, Lowezone and Etoka imprints, nikosf.’s work for Apollo has already seen him remix Artette’s “Day Three” in 2011. Turning his thoughts to ” Marina”, attention is immediately drawn to Nikos’ effort with its metronomic 4/4 rhythm, straight house hi-hats and deep percussive elements. A strong but subtle lead line sits perfectly across proceedings adding yet another dimension to Artette’s original. Nadja Lind has a huge body of work behind her. With some 350 Beatport production credits to her name since 2007, on the likes of Gastspiel, Evolved and Doppelgaenger, the hard-working German is also half of the renowned, Klartraum project with Helmut Ebritsch. Together, the duo run the LucidFlow imprint whose catalogue is brim full of talent and supported by the world’s finest DJs in the shape of Hernan Cattaneo, Estroe and Silicone Soul. Remixing Artette, Nadja Lind’s lazy beats and grooves act as a perfect backdrop for layers of ambient field recordings to be blended into their rhythmic counterparts. These then expertly develop into a clever vocal loop, reprised throughout, to produce an impressive new interpretation of “Marina”. Loz Goddard has made a splash in the world of deep house in 2012. A clutch of releases on Oversized X, C! Boutique and 5 and Dime have seen the Cheshire based UK producer achieve considerable success in a short period of time. A remix of Alvaro Hylander’s “Stop” and the forthcoming “Frame of Mind” EP for Apollo have further enhanced the Mancunian’s reputation. Schooled in the art of drums and the essentials of rhythmic programming, such skills are immediately apparent in Goddard’s remix of “Marina”. Full of vibrant energy and floor-shaking rhythm, this is an epic and innovative interpretation as Artette’s original elements entwine themselves seamlessly with Goddard’s rhythmic underpinnings. Based in the sun-drenched island of Tenerife in the Canaries, Florian Traian, producing as Adverb, is an artist that prefers to shun the limelight. The rhetorical question, “how deep can you go?” encapsulates the Spaniard’s production philosophy in one simple statement. A regular contributor to Etoka records, Adverb confirms his deep house sensibilities with a cavernous beat, enhanced with a strong 808 clap and subtly tuned percussive elements that provide an anchor for a rippling arpeggio and pitched vocal loop to emerge as the track progresses. With Artette’s sustained pads providing even greater depth, Adverb’s skill is in full evidence. Berlin based DJ, producer and label owner Oliver Deutschmann announces his debut album. ‘Out of the Dark’, will be released on vidab records in March, 2013.
Oliver runs vidab with label partner Stephan Hill, together curating an impressive catalogue of quality, raw and analog-infused house and techno. He also created the Falkplatz label as a further outlet for his energetic A&R tendencies.
Firmly established in the underground, Deutschmann has stood behind his unique brand of 4/4 beats for more than a decade; a permanent fixture at Panorama Bar for over 4 years with his dubby, pushing house vibes, old school drums, intense peaks and driving modern dramatics.
Developing a strong signature sound, Oliver translates real emotion and atmosphere into his productions, with bold, crisp and powerful drums, resonant, textural synthlines and a stylish talent for keeping things locked down to hypnotising effect.
Each element coming to life through his analog recording chain, the results we find on ‘… Dark’ are Deutschmann’s most precise, powerful and honest yet. From the bold intro of ‘Fever’, with its soaring 80s synth vibes, a string of incredibly crisp tracks unfolds, reaching early heights with the futuristic story telling of ‘New World Order’, then swooping into the depths with the melancholic ‘Sadness Descends’.
The first single to be released from the album will be three remixes. This pre-release single will be packaged with reworks from fellow vidab conspirators Tomas Svensson, Hiver and Stephan Hill.
One of his first releases on vidab, ‘Siem Reap’ receives a new treatment for 2013 and comes on as strong as ever, an exercise in reduction in the classic Detroit-meets-Berlin tradition. While ‘L.O.V.E’ employs a similar heads-down approach, yet at a slower pace, creating one of the most heated club moments on the album.
Binding it all together is Oliver’s distinctive use of building synth lines, each carefully tuned synth melody filtering, overlapping and shimmering through the lovingly produced tracks. ‘Die Tiefe’ is a perfect example of this then, or the surging epitaph of ‘They Bleed Glitter’, with its tearily beautiful and simple wash of synth melodies.
‘Out of the Dark’ is Oliver’s personal response to the world around him. Indeed, its a tough world sometimes, and just like the music within, we’re often reminded it can be a beautiful, and inspiring one too.
Oliver Deutschmann kicks things off with the official release party at Panorama Bar on February 24th 2013 – the album tour will then run throughout the summer.

After 5 years Renato is back! Ladies and gentlemen, we are going through an area of turbulence, we ask all passengers to remain seated, with your seatbelts fastened… Anyone whos ever experienced the treacherous descent to Cagliari airport will totally understand Renato Figolis fear of flying, but in contrast to the loudspeaker announcement that introduces Funkoholic, the Sardinian producers album is anything but turbulent the smoothest of takeoffs, superb in-flight entertainment and controlled touchdown make it an early contender for one of 2013s most rewarding listens, not to mention one of AMAM’s strongest entries to date. Renato has been drifting on and off the electronic radar for the best part of eight years since a flurry of releases on Lo Fi Stereo, Gumption and Trapez launched him into prominence. During this timeframe, he also linked up with a teenage Alessio Mereu, who, under Renato’s guidance, learned the ins and outs of production with Logic. Now that Alessio’s label AMAM has built up an international audience over the past few years, it seemed the perfect home for Renato’s new full-length record, his first in five years. Funkoholic closes the loop in a musical sense, allowing Renato the scope to fully realise his potential while setting out a musical doctrine that merges deep techno, funk, dub, jazz and ambience in a truly idiosyncratic manner. The album consists of nine tracks, each linked by elegantly crafted ambient transitions that leave the listener in a state of suspended animation. This constant alternation between inner space and outer space is one of the albums defining features, balancing style and content in equal measures. It also allows Renato to patiently strip down his arrangements something thats not always possible on a single track or EP to reveal the complex internal workings of ideas that have clearly evolved through endless late-night sonic excursions. His music has always sung in a language of its own: the chord progressions, fat, rolling bass lines and quirky rhythms instantly recognisable to anyone acquainted with his sound. Here, though, he takes the formula one step further, inviting jazz guitarist Carlo Ditta and trumpeter Mario Massa to add their virtuosity to the proceedings. In fact, their classy improvisations dominate the opening section of the album, adding an additional dimension to the epic soundscapes of Underpool and the raw, shuffling title track Funkoholic, while Neville Attrees commentary on the double-edged nature of obsession lends anymore a dark, brooding energy. Switching to autopilot, And Again is a fine example of how peripheral elements from one track can slowly move to the foreground to become the central focus of the next, while Buck a Guy returns to classic Figoli territory, turning the screw with a twisting acid loop designed to bounce on through till morning. Renatos in no hurry to tear up the dancefloor, however, as Call One slows things down to a deep, throbbing groove, again utilising Dittas deft finger work in a spontaneous merging of minds that could only emanate from Sardinian shores. Super Lemon Vapor dives even deeper into the subconscious with tripped out metallic FX skipping and sliding through the hidden gateway to a smokers paradise. This all sets the scene for one final push as the twin forces of Morning and Night Express up the tempo in a powerful burst of cyclic energy. Turbulence or not, when Renatos at the controls, the crowd will be out of their seats and dancing in the aisles. Thank you for flying with AMAM and we wish you a pleasant journey…

It would be a little lazy to suggest that there are echoes of Bjork in the work of Finnish ‘multimedia artist’ turned oddball pop chanteuse Keidi Kilpelainen. Yet her adventurous approach – mixing crunchy, icy electronics with curious synth-pop and grandiose showtunes – does show some similarities with the acclaimed Icelandic songstress. This third full length, her first since 2008, further develops her pleasingly bizarre style, whilst retaining enough pop savvy and refined musicality to impress those who see her HK119 character as a bit of a joke. Certainly, it’s an enjoyable album and stands up to comparisons with the likes of Nicolette, who excelled at this kind of acid-fried electronica 10 years ago.
