The forerunner 12″ single of the album is a collaboration of Marc together with Bajka who contributed the soulful and warm vocals on Carl Craig’s legendary remix of Beanfield’s “Tides”. The song will be released on the Italian imprint Rebirth which stands out with its high profile house music of the likes of Agoria, Full Intention, Larry Heard and Andrés.

The album will be supported by an extenstive tour where he will be playing either live or doing a DJ set. His live show will showcase his mastery for the duration of 90 minutes where he will skillfully manipulate his analogue synthesizers and screen specially designed visuals. Greek Dub techno artist Fluxion returns to Echochord here with Broadwalk Tales, a fifth studio album of a storied career and third for the respected Danish label. It’s been nice to see an artist and label develop a working relationship in the manner that Konstantinos Soublis has with Echochord over the course of those aforementioned albums and a clutch of 12″s and the Greek producer evidently feels comfortable enough to play with the confines of the dub techno sound. A press release for Broadwalk Tales has Soublis stating he “wanted to make something more than the usual dub techno tracks, with a hint of manipulated voices every now and then” and the collection is notable for the number of tracks featuring Jamaican vocalist Teddy Selassie. Fluxion fans will love this.

2014 is the 10th anniversay of the San Francisco based producers 40 Thieves releasing their first EP and now they come through with their debut album The Sky Is Yours for Leng Records. Core members Layne Fox, Corey Black & Jay Williams call on their bevy of friends to contribute to the group’s diverse sonic smake up. Travis ‘TK’ Kirschbaum was a co-founder and key contributor and local best buds Qzen, Alona, Rita Mazlan, Jason ‘JP Soul’ Peters, Chris MacGrew, Masahiko Kiritani, Dave Dick, Victor Critchfield, Colin Klingman, Dave Kurzman and Larry Hamilton have all played various roles in past and current productions. Over the years 40 Thieves have connected with likeminded labels including Rong Music and Permanent Vacation to release a small handful of original singles and EP’s. One in particular, 2008’s “Don’t Turn It Off,” caused such a commotion it wound up on a few dozen CD compilations and was voted Best of the Decade by Beatport in 2010. Over the next few years the Thieves had the chance to remix great artists including Kid Creole and the Coconuts, Gary ‘Chocolate Star’ Davis, Plastique De Reve, and Johnny Dynell. Whether they’re creating cosmic odyssey soundscapes or lazy mutant house, 40 Thieves like to interweave live instrumentation with programmed electronics, their sound would be equally at home at the Mudd Club circa 1983 or in the headphones of an Ibiza beachgoer circa 2083. Whether slack or upbeat, 40 Thieves always aim for the head as well as the floor. Their first release for Leng was the huge and now super rare double A sided 10 Backward Love/Crystal Mountain Thunder. This was followed by a one sided 10 picture disc for Record Store Day 2013.

Max McFerren has long been a staple of Brooklyn and Chinatown’s lofts and club spaces at particularly late hours with his playful but muscular take on techno, but this is the first glimpse into the unadorned but texturally luxurious MCFERRDOG project. Jacked on twisted optimism and Power 105.7 bombastics, “Club Amniotics” toes extremes of fantastical, bubbly weird-as-I-wanna-be experiments and a hugely emotive, open-spaced club vernacular.

Whether goofing off into circus EDM and kaleidoscopic, elasticated techno or hitting ultra-sincere emotions and straight up euphoria, MCFERRDOG is totally uninhibited in this pre-subjective, pre-club ego-forming sphere. Fantasizing an alt Panorama Bar culture, particularly sportive bouncers like “Thesaurus Mode” ride a clearer techno tempo, processing jumped up club signifiers into a super melodic ASMR love story. Mutated neo-rave sensations rise off of the title track (one of the c38s more sensual moments) whereas the stop-start funk of “Rosewater” or slightly drunker “Vulgar Physics” is bouncy and straight up weird.

This dual mind might go some ways to explain McFerren’s interactions with the likes of DJ Richard and Young Male at the same time as playing warehouses with acid freaks like Gobby and Physical Therapy. MCFERRDOG’s strokes are broad; tapping into the threshold of a good idea and reopening recent youth with post-ironic realness and notions of unbridled imagination, fantasy and new age.

Disco – Disco … thats the first thing that crops to mind by listening to the new Album GOOD MORNING PEOPLE made by Roter & Lewis for the first time. Perfectly selected Vocals and every track with a high talented musical arrangement make it to a life-time experience. In line with their motto: “It`s not what you say, but how you say it”, Roter & Lewis always say it groovy, explosive, innovative and with bass. For years they have been a perfect couple (DJ/Producer), creating music from Deep to Techhouse. Sony (Columbia) saved themselves the boys for following Remixes, which underline show talented they are. Their sound took place at many festivals worldwide. Spring 2014 will see Dutch label Dekmantel release the debut full-length album from New Jersey producer, DJ and Inimeg Records boss Joey Anderson. Entitled After Forever, the album is the natural next step for a producer who has turned out plenty of deep and intriguing techno EPs for labels like Latency, Deconstruct Music and Syncrophone over the last couple of years.

Having been championed by the connoisseur likes of Levon Vincent and DJ Qu before the rest of the world cottoned on, Anderson’s style has proved to be truly idiosyncratic, where near bottomless techno grooves get run through with haunted piano lines, shadowy synth work or elegant drones. There are barely ever any claps or snares, instead just plenty of deeply hypnotic kicks and plenty of noir tension.

“Every track on the album has its own take on my personality, my mentality musically and my vision of off-dancefloor music,” says Joey. “I find it very difficult to create something for people just to like. I’d rather pay attention to making them get close to the album and uncover the ideas within it. Being my first LP, it’s dedicated to my two daughters, Akatriel and Auset.”

As well as two tracks that were released on Anderson’s previous Dekmantel EP, the album offers nine new cuts and kicks off with ‘Space Between Curtains’. Haunting, saddened piano keys linger in the air above metallic synth sounds for the emotive duration of the track. Then there’s the teary eyed, end-of-the-world yet optimistic vibe of ‘Space Colors Ideas’. After that various intimate moods are explored, from heavy and ominous on ‘Maidens Response’ to celestial and cautiously uplifting on ‘Archer’s Ceremony’ via ‘Amp Me Up’, which sees Anderson’s spacious and atmospheric style suck you in with its weird, gurgling machine noises unravelling above an unchanging drum track.

It’s an album that demands and indeed warrants close inspection, and is the sort of work that really transports you deep into another world far away from here. With After Forever, then, Joey Anderson confirms he crafts moody and atmospheric techno like few others.

“The concept of “Cyclonic” is based on recordings of various storms and rain, with recordings of Hurricane Sandy being a massive part of the source material.

Submersion is well known for his dub techno productions and “Cyclonic” could easily be described as dub techno but the focus is much more on a very meditative and spiritual state of ambience, based around the swirling sounds of wind, rain and deep echoes and delays of organic synth stab sounds and chords.

Riding high on the buzz he has generated in the last twelve months, Max Graef delivers this album to Tartelet as a man very much in demand. His style, fuelled on the foundations of sampling funk and soul to a brilliantly modern end, has more space to breathe on this LP, but still the fundamentals remain. “Itzehoe” struts on a lazy jazzed-out sizzle of drums and beautiful Rhodes notes while “Tamboule Fudgefunk” punches its way through woozy synth work and a righteous beat and “Drums Of Death” struts on a perfect disco groove replete with live instrumentation, but there’s a wealth of other tempos and styles all shot through with the homespun jazz charm that Graef has made his own of late.
