Schlammpeitziger – What’s Fruit

ABOUT THE RECORD: With his new album “What’s Fruit”, Schlammpeitziger touches the dancefloor more than ever before in his 22-year long career. Yet his dancefloor is a playful one. The Cologne based composer’s sounds electrify with their multi-layered melodic structures. He weaves countless details in perfection, to a high density of musical activity, always focusing on the slow, driving beats which hold everything together. Each of the eight tracks represents shades of the unique humour we love about Schlammpeitziger: The tricky question about what’s those things we call fruit, or his mantric German lyrics on “Schneid ein Stu¨ck aus der Zeit” are charming messages which never fail to be heard in the guise of those lovely synth hooks. This new Schlammpeitziger disco has its source in a situation which does not quite promise relaxed creativity: In the past year Schlammpeitziger’s studio in Cologne has been surrounded by construction works. Locked up in his private space between massive hums, squealing saws and pulsating jackhammers, he delivers this indeed relaxed album with eight tracks. It comes across with the freshness of a debut work. Contrary to his previous records which had been mostly made with analogue synths, this album has been produced with iPad synths at 90%% of the time, before taking the mixes to Stefan Mohr’s (ex- member of the band “Workshop”) mixing console. ABOUT SCHLAMMPEITZIGER: It is the first time for Schlammpeitziger to release a record outside of his Cologne based home labels A-Musik and Sonig. This time the musician, drawer and charismatic performer appears on the Pingipung imprint from Hamburg. He had been in touch with the label for years and has also been a regular guest in the Golden Pudel Club. A lot has happened since Jo Zimmermann invented the Schlammpeitziger character in 1992. Artists like Depeche Mode, The Bionaut, Barbara Morgenstern or Egoexpress have asked for remixes and he has played countless international stages. His many albums and CDs have even been compiled to “Collected Simple Songs Of My Temporary Past” by the Domino label (UK), Thrill Jockey (US) and Tokuma (Japan).

Oren Ambarchi – Quixotism

news-14-07-oren-ambarchi

Artist: Oren Ambarchi
Title Of Album: Quixotism
Year Of Release: 2014
Label: Editions Mego / EMEGO 202
Genre: Experimental, Electronic
Quality: Flac
Bitrate: Lossless
Total Time: 00:46:49
Total Size: 211 mb

Tracklist:
1. Quixotism Part 1 (17:58)
2. Quixotism Part 2 (4:09)
3. Quixotism Part 3 (6:58)
4. Quixotism Part 4 (2:59)
5. Quixotism Part 5 (14:44)

Recorded with a multitude of collaborators in Europe, Japan, Australia and the USA, Quixotism presents the fruit of two years of work in the form of a single, LP-length piece in five parts. Ambarchi’s work in recent years has evinced an increasing fascination with the possibilities of combining abstract sonic textures with rhythm and pulse, whether in his drumming with Keiji Haino, the subtly driving ride cymbals provided by drummer Joe Talia in their work together, or the motorik grooves of Sagittarian Domain (Editions Mego, 2012). Quixotism takes this aspect of Ambarchi’s recent work to the next level: the entirety of this long-form work is built on a foundation of pulsing double-time electronic percussion provided by Thomas Brinkmann. Beginning as almost subliminal propulsion behind cavernous orchestral textures and John Tilbury’s delicate piano interjections, the percussive elements (elaborated on by Ambarchi and Matt Chamberlain) slowly inch into the foreground of the piece before suddenly breaking out into a polyrhythmic shuffle around the halfway mark, being joined by master Japanese tabla player U-zhaan for the piece’s final, beautiful, passages.
The pulse acts as thread leading the listener though a heterogeneous variety of acoustic spaces, from the concert hall in which the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra were recorded to the intimacy of Crys Cole’s contact-mic textures. Ambarchi’s guitar itself ranges over this wide variety of acoustic spaces, from airless, clipped tones to swirling, reverberated fog. Within the complex web Ambarchi spins over the piece’s steadily pulsing foundation, elements approach and recede, appear and reappear, in a non-linear fashion, even as the piece plots an overall course from the grey, almost Nono-esque reverberated space of its opening section to the crisp foreground presence of Jim O’Rourke’s synth and Evyind Kang’s strings in its final moments. Formally indebted to the side-long workouts of classic Cologne techno, the long-form works of composers such as Eliane Radigue, and the organic push and pull of improvised performance, Quixotism is constantly in motion, yet its transitions happen slowly and steadily, so that they are often nearly imperceptible, the diverse elements which make up the piece succeeding one another with the logic of a dream.
Anyone who follows Ambarchi’s work knows that it has many facets: explorations of the outer limits of rock with Keiji Haino, psychoacoustic interference and sizzling harmonics in his solo performances, delicate improvisations with Keith Rowe or John Tilbury. To all these projects, Ambarchi brings his particular sensibility, patiently allowing sounds to develop on their own terms without forsaking their intrinsic physical and emotional power. Similarly, although Quixotism is shaped by its many contributors, the resulting sound world is unmistakably Ambarchi’s own. His most substantial solo release since Audience of One (Touch, 2012), Quixotism represents the summation of Ambarchi’s work over the last few years while also pointing to the future.

Delicate Features – The Passenger

09. Flight over Steppes (4:57)
10. Orphan Song (4:13)

Ambient pot-pourri from St, Petersburg via LA** ““…our music goes to ambient, and sometimes atmosphere, of disturbance and worry, sometimes meditation. But it doesn’t lie.” So sayeth singer/soothsayer of Saint-Petersburg haunted romance duo Delicate Features, Radmila Nikogosian. We’re fully of the mind to concur. Nikogosian and bandmate/beau Pavel Diakov-Astvatsaturian have been lurking in the off-grid steppes for roughly two years, scotch-taping microphones to fragile percussive objects and folk flutes amidst glowing grey electric swells of depressive sensuality. The Passenger blurs morose misty synth-jazz with windswept new age memory pop into a love-blind stalk along an ice-scarred river – an experience befitting “two misanthropic dreamers who just like to listen to beautiful music.” The original intention apparently skewed more in a dancewardly direction but their grey northern home gravitated the mood into displaced, pensive nocturnal rhythms, often ditching drum forms entirely, like in the keening, cracked classical drift of “Orphan Song” or “Whispering Wind.” The sequencing spills out a story of devotion and dissolve, tracking the whole heavy soul waveform – poetic faith (“Birds Near River”), Sunday morning (“Opal”), body rapture (“Kiss By The Sea”), escape/evolution (“Transparent Shadows”), etc. 10 twilit and tactile songs for staring through stained glass to. Mastered by Alex Nagle. Artwork by Britt Brown.”

Full-length debut from the elusive Shinichi Atobe, known for an incredible 12” on Chain Reaction almost 15 years ago and never seen or heard from since. Audio mastered and cut by Matt Colton, Individually numbered edition of 600 copies for the world. Vinyl purchases come with a download of the full album plus 4 bonus tracks dropped into your account on Monday, October 27th* Shinichi Atobe has managed to stay off grid since he made an appearance on Basic Channel’s Chain Reaction imprint back in 2001. He delivered the second-to-last 12” on the label and then disappeared without a trace, leaving behind a solitary 12” that’s been selling for crazy money (theres a copy up on discogs at the moment for $600 – go figure) and a trail of speculation that has led some people to wonder whether the project was in fact the work of someone on the Basic Channel payroll. That killer Chain Reaction 12” has also been a longtime favourite of Demdike Stare, who have been trying to follow the trail and make contact with Atobe for some time, whomever he turned out to be. A lead from the Basic Channel office turned up an address in japan and – unbelievably – an album full of archival and new material that after a lot of hard work has been assembled and compiled by Demdike for this debut album. And what a weird and brilliant album it is – deployed with a slow-churn opener that sounds like a syruppy Actress track, before working through a brilliantly sharp and tactile 9 minute Piano House roller that sounds like DJ Sprinkles at his most bittersweet, before diving headlong into a heady, Vainqueur inspired droneworld. It’s a confounding album, full of odd little signatures that give the whole thing a timeless feel that’s completely detached from the zeitgeist – like a sound bubble from another era. This is only the second album release on Demdike Stare’s DDS imprint following on from Nate Young’s ’Regression Vol.3’ last year, who knows what they might turn up next.

Rapoon – Fall Of Drums

1414251795_cover

Label: Zoharum
Release date: 2014
Source: WEB
Format: mp3
Quality: 320 kbps
Size: 148 MB
Genre: Electronic
Style: Ambient

Tracklist:
01. A Gallery Of Crows (13:37)
02. Beneath And Beyond (6:27)
03. Upstairs And Sheep (11:45)
04. The Heat Beguiles (33:00)

It has been a year since the release of highly-acclaimed album entitled “To West and Blue”. After various archive releases (the second volume in the rarities collection entitled “Seeds in the Tide” plus expanded reissue of a classic album “The Fires of the Borderlands”) and new albums on other labels (“Psi-Transient” and “Conduits And Estuaries”), Robin Storey aka Rapoon presents a carefully woven new masterpiece called “Fall of Drums”.

The new Rapoon album marks his return not only to the analogue electronics territories, but also to ethnic rhythms which he was known for in the very early days of his solo project. We are back to Middle Eastern territories, to deserts, opium hallucinations and ghosts whisper amidst the sand. 4 long hypnotic tracks of staggering beauty take us on an hour-long journey into your subconsciousness. In other words, it is another top quality album from Robin Storey.
