Last months of the year: it’s the swing of seasons; a cool breeze that nicely refreshes the soul and brings a desire to explore new horizons, the pleasure of taking a ticket to wherever is the new destination.
Krill Music once again takes on the role of a wise, trustworthy pilot in this latest journey into the world of sound. Through the dark, cold woods to the bright and peaceful glades: an intricately fascinating new chapter.
This time the compass needle swings towards the Alps where Krill Music meets Opuswerk, protagonist of the 8th release on Krill Music, the Swiss producer with a soft spot for synth driven elements and gear systems besides being a worthy representative of Geneva’s techno scene with his residency for the Techno Legends parties at le Zoo.
He hit the label’s radar in 2012 with his EP on Plak records, which featured a collaboration with another Krill artist: london based Fundamental Interaction. That same year, his EP on Knotweed records called Khaler EP made us realise he was fit for Krill. where he continued .
As they say, good things take time. Two years later the “Settlements For Equals EP” perfectly reflected his intention of finding a sound uniquely rich in its own right coming out of his machines. Including shades of gritty techno and raw house, with gloomy atmospheric dub and dark waves of acid frequencies, every single track stands out as a unique statement, creating a fascinating ‘Opuswerk’ dimension – vibrant and exciting, melodic and attractive.
“Spare Matrix” opens the proceedings, immediately creating an atmosphere typical of Opuswerk: an injection of raw and thrilling techno powered by grooving rhythms with colourful and mesmerising chords.
The temperature rises further with the A2 “Axioms and Simulations” – an explosion of twitchy tones and energising minimal acid sequencers which remain constant for the duration of the track. The focus is on monotone hard and grainy accents which keep the vibes hot whether you’re on the dancefloor or not.
Then suddenly everything changes on the B-side: the excitement goes down from the upper floors, down to the dark, dirty, dusty basement with “04F”. Obscure rhythms, muffled voices, whispers and dark sensually flavoured melodies that seem to belong to a distant land; making this track a real hypnotic poison.
Last but not least is the ultimate track B2, made by a producer who has given Opuswerk plenty of inspiration – The Artist Formerly Known As 19.454.18.5.25.5.18. Even if his identity still remains a mystery, this talented artist continues to deliver incredible craft and dancefloor killer productions with an unmistakable style. “04F (The Artist Formerly Known As 19.454.18.5.25.5.18 fm version)” can be simply be summed up as a classy, jacking techno banger.
