Luke Hess is one of the few techno producers who effortlessly flits between European and US sounds. This is reflected in the type of labels he releases on – Omar S’ FXHE and Danish imprint Echocord. Hess’ latest missive for Echocord typical of his sound; “Pillars of Creation” sees him fuse deep, dubby beats with Basic Channel chords, while “Gravitational Effects” further explores this approach, using insistent percussion and a cavernous bass. The release finishes with the spoken word oddity that is “Crate Diggin On Planet Omnom”, but this releases’ real highlights are Hess’ tough, dubby club tracks and his ability to transcend scenes and genres.
