Australian experimentalist Rory McPike drops a bizarre release on the fast-rising Cult Trip label. The title track kicks-starts the record with slowed down, teased out acid workout, but soon enough McPike is exploring different areas. “Outlaw” is a punky, disco groove underpinned by a doom-laden, Bauhaus-style bass, while “Technocracy” sees this antipodean maverick shift again. It’s a chord-heavy affair very much in the European techno tradition of Kanzleramt. Finally, there’s “The Rig”. It marks a return of sorts to the title track, but on this occasion, the acid lines are based on lithe break beats and pulverising bass tones.
