When Chrome Canyon (Stones Throw) and Saarid (Throne of Blood), formed duo Soft Touch in Brooklyn in 2012, their intent was to make “adventurous pop music.” In their case, adventures include a palette that includes vintage disco, 90’s R+B, Golden Era NYC Hip Hop and House Music. Already buzz-makers as solo artists in their own rights, the DJ duo is already hard at work creating masterstrokes, and remixes that will dazzle come Summer.

They continue their release schedule with Dither Down Records with “Swim In The Night” (Available on 12″ Vinyl and Digital) a lethal dose of digi R+B that conjures up the essence of the digi-R+B/dance phenoms that had everyone’s from Expose, Animotion, Nu Shooz, Teena Marie and the famous Prince and Sheena Easton collaborations. The voice adding the special sauce this time around is Norwegian powerhouse Silya, who has done everything from Cabaret to Rock and Roll. Her songs have been covered by Vanessa Hudgens and she’s duetted with Cee Lo Green. It’s clear there’s nothing this amazing voice and talent can not provide.

The remixes exploit all that is gorgeous about R+B, Chrome Canyon’s Jazzy Slow Disco Mix takes you back to Andre Herrell”s Uptown, with sounds that you’ve never heard in DJ Premier’s arsenal, with Patrice Rushen providing the extra spice. Walker and Royce dig deep into the bowels of NYC and Detroits Techno and Progressive Dance tent, loading on synths and keeping the four on the floor. Mocean Worker goes straight to the heart of the Jam and Lewis’s Flyte Time magic cum Rick James’s Mary Jane Girls, if they were produced by Howard Jones or Martin Gore.
