Prostitutes caps a profligate 2014 with his stomping return to Diagonal after hot sessions with Spectrum Spools, Night School, and Mira. In ‘Ecstasy, Crashing Beats and Fantasy’ it feels like he’s really cemented and distinguished his toiling funk from the hardwave horde, equally due to his uncompromising hardware aesthetic and fine balance of menacing subtlety. The devil is in the detail, from the hypnotic drones and shark-toothed bite of industrial jakker ‘Crawl In From Broadway’ to the possessed, wobble-jaw electro chatter of ‘Side Effects Of Living’, arguably his sexiest, psychotomimetic ‘floor joint to date. In between, he sources from a rich Mid West machine funk heritage with the jagged purple acid perk of ‘Dollars To DMs’ and again with the low slung bassline revs and slomped vocal stabbed into ‘Lovers Run Camp America’ like some malformed backstreet hybrid of Suicide and DJ Stingray. It’s pure dancefloor grot, done right.

Prostitutes – Nouveauree EP

CS543006-01A-BIG

Label/Catalog#: Night School / LSSN025
Release date: 2014
Source: WEB
Format: mp3
Quality: 320 kbps
Size: 64 MB
Genre: Electronic
Style: Techno, Electonic

Tracklist:
1. Late to Take It Light (4:53)
2. Hate’s in the City (5:54)
3. Punk in the Street (4:11)
4. Dragged It Home to Bed (5:43)
5. So Goddamn Gaunt (7:12)

Since debuting as Prostitutes in 2011 on his own StabUDown label, experimental noise and techno artist James Donadio has established his confrontational style with a slew of releases. This year alone has seen Donadio add two EPs on Avian’s Mira sub-label and an album for John Elliott’s Spectrum Spools label to a discography that already includes Diagonal, Digitalis and Opal Tapes. This Nouveauree 12″ finds Donadio adding the prospering Night School to his collar, and you may think he makes a strange bed fellow with The Space Lady or Molly Nillson on the UK experimental label but Donadio’s singular sonic fingerprint still feels strangely at home. Night School suggest Nouveauree to be “a purge, a palette cleanser,” but it also feels like some of Donadio’s most gratifyingly floor focused material. You can almost visualise someone like Powell giving it the screw face as he drops “Punk In The Street” in one of his sets.
“Petit Cochon” is the third LP and debut album for Spectrum Spools by James Donadio under his Prostitutes guise. From “Psychedelic Black”, the self-released debut LP limited to only 100 to the esteemed “Crushed Interior” on Digitalis, it’s safe to say Donadio has crafted a style unmatched in the climate of contemporary electronic music. The top shelf E.P.’s on Mira and Diagonal were a small glimpse into all that has led up to the new full-length, which we are proud to unveil.

“Petit Cochon” is a total burner, no exceptions. From the opening cryptic threat of “Powerful Magnets” into the serrated pummeling of “The Bluffer’s Corporation”, it becomes clear very quickly that no punches will be pulled and that “Petit Cochon” is a heavy affair. Donadios signature sample manipulation in tandem with live electronics and particular mixing processes hit new highs with the manic clatter of “Suck Out the Reason”, which shifts and shuffles between huge snare drums and whispers from the void. “Stains Left Unnamed”, like it’s title suggests, is a grim and filthy ordeal with head-spinning delay ringing alongside jagged and fractured rhythm. This album has cuts for the club heads and for those locked away from the rest of the world, and as a whole serves as the perfect and logical next full length in the Prostitutes cannon.
