Max Cooper has collaborated with Belleruche / Tru Thoughts? jazz singer Kathrin deBoer on two-part EP named CONDITIONS TWO. The brutal “Numb” encases deBoer?s scat vocalisation and cries of ?I don?t feel you / any more? within a grimy soundscape of distorted bass, glitch and a breakdown that falls away to total silence. “Falling into Recursive Space”, meanwhile, is a more traditional set of Cooper beats ? melodic, tender and abstract, again purpose built to showcase deBoer?s range. Most of Cooper?s work is influenced around science or math theory but the CONDITIONS series takes as its starting point Cooper?s very personal view of the human condition: that people are the mercy of their biology and are happy or unhappy within the confines of that limited free will. This release follows Cooper?s collaboration with Canada?s BRAIDS to create Pleasures and Automaton for the previous CONDITIONS EP.
