Prins Thomas’ first commercially available DJ mix, 2007’s Cosmic Galactic Prism, was something of a masterclass in dancefloor-friendly eclecticism, effortlessly joining the dots between a myriad of sounds and styles whilst retaining a decidedly intergalactic feel. Pleasingly, Rainbow Disco Club Volume 1 – released in celebration of the annual Tokyo festival of the same name – is similarly inspirational. Featuring some 26 tracks crammed onto one disc, it impressively joins the dots between the demented space disco of DJ Fett Burger and Speckgurtel, the fuzzy house intensity of Theo Parrish’s rework of Helium Robots, the spiralling loop techno of Surgeon (here remixing Bee Mask), and the sweaty, bass-driven broken house brilliance of General Ludd. And that’s just for starters.

A self-professed vinyl junkie and one half of Force of Nature alongside DJ Kent, KZA (pictured above) has a strong affiliation with the Endless Flight offshoot of Mule Musiq. Four years ago saw the release of his debut album Dig & Edit on the label, and he’s also been responsible for a raft of 12?s on Endless Flight – including the classic Le Troublant Acid – as well as mixing two volumes of their showcase compilation series I’m Starting To Feel Okay. Now Dig & Edit 2 has arrived, and it’s a continuation of the approach the producer took with his debut set. Some ten tracks long, Dig & Edit Vol. 2 largely consists of new material that KZA sampled from his extensive record collection and subsequently arranged with the assistance of Mule Musiq boss Kuniyuki, though it does end on the aforementioned, previously released Paul Martin-sampling stunner “Le Troublant Acid”. All in all, essential.

JD Twitch & JG Wilkes aka Optimo Espacio do what they do best on this 21-track selection of nocturnal beauties. Their follow-up to Fabric 52 – the duo’s last commercially available mix CD – takes a lowlit side-entrance into a private backroom of pharmaceutically effective aces opening with Grouper’s ‘Vanishing Point’ and closing with an amazing cover of Suicide’s ‘Dream Baby Dream’. In between they cut a path thru the slow strobes and flashing red lights via deepest techno from Terrence Dixon and Kraftwerk-sampling house from QX-1 to the slow throb of Recondite’s ‘Cleric’ to an amazing pile-up of Byetone’s ‘Plastic Star’/Kode 9 & The Space Ape’s ‘Sine Of The Dub’/Hieroglyphic Being’s ‘Imaginary Soundscapes 9’/Silent Servant ‘Invocation’, through to another amazing run of Hecker ‘bsfºtyk 5’/ Nurse With Wound ‘Ketamineaphobia’/Cater Tutti ‘Coolicon’ and more from Deadboy, Like A Tim and Voigt & Voigt. This is total dark art DJing territory; a masterful mix from two of the best in field.
