The Tape Project was recorded between 2010 and 2012.
The concept of this was to make songs that were entirely free of the computer (from making sounds all the way to the final mix). This started a new way of working and capturing a bit more freedom and allowing to focus on arrangement more with ears instead eyes.
All tracks were produced with a small eurorack modular synthesizer with analog step sequencers in it. This system worked well with a TR-808 and other older synths, then every synth was routed to the mixing console and then finally recorded to cassette tape.
The tape support has been choosen for the added sound of the compression and the added extra noise seemed to gel nicely with the compositions.
Spanning from ambient to deep techno with few dub elements, the album consists of seven full lenght original takes recorded on tapes. No edits, no post-production, no computer.

Second output on Eclipsemusic for the heavy rhythms dub duo Weight and Treble. In this vinyl debut Weight and Treble meets legendary Brooklyn hip hop artist Sensational. The 2×12′ EP takes off with Kickin’ it, a techno infected dub. Here the music is focused on a dark and deep bass and drum pulse buried in a cloudy synth soundscape in which Sensational crawls his way on a tripped-out flow. The B side opens with Bliss In The Mix (Ice Nice Riddim) a stripped down cut where rhythm and rhymes breathe into a weightlessness ambience made of shadows of sounds and vinyl static noises. Bliss In The Mix (Cash Path Riddim): same rhymes for another slower and more hip hop oriented rhythm where a percussive one note synth riff, off-beat skank and propulsive bass lead the nasty, rough Sensational’s flow; everything ends up in a concrete, electro-acustical mayhem. Kickin’ it (Beat Pharmacy Dub): Brendon Moeller in full effect. A club-oriented deep driving dub techno track for the NY based South African producer. Nine minute of pure deep bliss. Kickin’ it (Rob Bardini Remix): Bardini’s heartbreaking strings and bass add new perspectives on this cut reshaping the rhythm in a deep and soulful sound dimension. Bliss in the mix (cash path riddim) – (Sonitus Eco remix): Maltese producer Justin Meli pushes out this track to reveal the dark side of Sensational’s flow; in his hands the rhythm becomes abstract, choked and sinister, but equally sharp and propulsive….
