It’s been a fine beginning for Blank Slate with four releases last year that brought startling and imaginative techno to our attention with a focus on noirish atmospheres and earthen sampling, and now the label is at it again with this debut from a project that features Rene Audiard. The worldly remit has been expanded upon here as lashings of eastern folk instrumentation populate the tracks, ranging from the pipes that freehweel over “Karv”s techy bump to the strummed refrains present in “Woman”. It’s a finely balanced combination that captivates from the moment it passes your ears, making for another essential installment in an ever strengthening series.
