Mallorca’s Dakpa has been on a roll since AMAM released his debut EP last fall: He’s contributed to several compilations, including AMAM’s own Hand Out series, Kina Music’s Fade to K pt. 3 and Wizz Vinyl’s Sonar Sampler 2014, plus EPs for labels like District Raw and Serial Number 849. But AMAM gets the honor of issuing his first own vinyl release, the Distres EP. The opening title track is an exercise in jacking minimalism, vibrant tech-house with just the essentials, but more than enough to get the floor moving. Then, “Ademus” gets into a slightly more colorful groove, with tropical percussive interplay and some whooping voice for a humanistic accent (is that Brigitte Bardot?). On the flip, “Virgo” gives a modern update to the frenzy of acid housethe title alone brings Virgo Four to mind. On that note, this one is an effective tool for warping minds and evoking spastic dance moves. Finally, the dependable Gaetano Vinci a.k.a. Hooved reinterprets “Ademus” with a heavy dose of melodic funk and symphonic washes, making the track into an entirely new creation. But wait, there’s more! Our prodigious producer gave us two additional tracks, “Marius” and “Evolution”, that were not able to fit on the vinyl, but we are happy to share them with you exclusively as digital downloads, rounding out the release in truly multifaceted form.

Earlier this year, Alessio Mereu released with his collaborative trio P.o.o.F., utilizing trumpet and guitar. Now the AMAM founder returns with a solo EP, but its more than just back to basics. While it does continue the progress of his techno/house productions, this might be his most conceptually ambitious release to date. The ThreeplusOne EP features three originals, plus a fourth combining elements from each, as well as three remixes from John Tejada, Ferlin and Martinez. “Three in One” is an effervescent creation, buzzing with different life forms that ebb and flow into seemingly limitless dimensions, never losing momentum throughout its near nine-minute duration. Then we hear “Sore”, the first indicator that the three base tracks are more than just parts of the sum. This one contrasts twitchy rhythms with sinewy synth tones in the outer register, evoking strange but pleasant moods. “Overpay” is of a different species, totally dubbed out but with an unrelenting vigor. “Bagel” is comparatively sly, more stripped down but with plenty of tweaky tricks up its sleeve. To further expand the EPs world of sounds, Los Angeles-based John Tejada (Kompakt) transforms “Sore” into a richly electrified beauty with a Teutonic pulse, Berlin-based Sardinian Andrea Ferlin (Sleep is Commercial) strips down “Overpay” to turn it into his own dancefloor monologue, and Copenhagen’s Martinez (Cocoon) bends Bagel into a lip-smacking, swinging shuffle spread over 13 minutes. No matter how you do the math, ThreeplusOne adds up to be a really good time!

Just in time for summer, AMAM is pleased to announce the fourth entry in its Hand Out compilation series, titled The Sun Has Woken Up, continuing to deliver exclusive material from established AMAM crew members as well as newcomers, showing the labels diversity in sound as well as showcase how the roster is reaching a more international level.First up, Argentine DJ/producer Ezequiel Esley sets the tone with two tracks, the spacious and sinister Spheres and the deep, plinky Twilight Zone. Toronto rep Andrew McDonnell makes his first AMAM appearance, three varying tracks of smoggy, hypnotic tech-house, titling them to reflect his no-nonsense approach: Whats Up, No Way and Its Me. On the second half, Dutch duo Leman & Dieckmann contribute the synthetic and majestic Workers Ground and Numb for some more jacking moments. Sakro, one of Mexicos up-and-coming production talents, teams up with Chicagos Max Jacobson for Grandeur Of and Going Down, two of the more maniacally percussive tracks on the compilation. Finally, Munich-based Fabio Carra offers the seductively serpentine Jumping on a Prickly Pear and the introspective Wonder Life, signing off in grace.

Earlier in 2013, AMAM introduced the Hand Out series, so far with two compilation EPs, and now for year’s end we outdo ourselves with an abundance of new, exclusive tracks in the form of the Extended Chapter. Spanning a variety of finely crafted tech/house sounds, from delicate to deadly, this collection features AMAM veterans (including Tobia Coffa and label founder Alessio Mereu), newcomers (Qbeck, Dakpa) and even a few brand new faces to the team, such as Autumn Tree, who kicks things off with the synthetic strut of “Blackout”. Then Renato Figoli offers the optimistic, shining “Noon Part 1”, his first new production since his album Funkoholic was released in March. After the comparatively darker and murky tracks by Niro and 000, Alessio Mereu offers the centerpiece “SDT”, which probably stands for Super Dope Track because that’s what it is! The archetypical AMAM, classy yet playful. On the compilation’s second half, we are treated to minimalist moments of percussive perkiness, coming courtesy of producers Dakpa and Qbeck, followed by the ever-dependable Tobia Coffa, who brings the bpm down a few notches, offering a strong dose of menacing melody, with percussive swagger and a hint of acid. Then Gartenhaus label duo Leman & Dieckmann bring the serious, somber “I Don’t Waste My Time”, and finally, Alessio Mereu signs off with “Mama” where a bouquet of rhythms and pads intertwine, offering a smooth finish.

After 5 years Renato is back! Ladies and gentlemen, we are going through an area of turbulence, we ask all passengers to remain seated, with your seatbelts fastened… Anyone whos ever experienced the treacherous descent to Cagliari airport will totally understand Renato Figolis fear of flying, but in contrast to the loudspeaker announcement that introduces Funkoholic, the Sardinian producers album is anything but turbulent the smoothest of takeoffs, superb in-flight entertainment and controlled touchdown make it an early contender for one of 2013s most rewarding listens, not to mention one of AMAM’s strongest entries to date. Renato has been drifting on and off the electronic radar for the best part of eight years since a flurry of releases on Lo Fi Stereo, Gumption and Trapez launched him into prominence. During this timeframe, he also linked up with a teenage Alessio Mereu, who, under Renato’s guidance, learned the ins and outs of production with Logic. Now that Alessio’s label AMAM has built up an international audience over the past few years, it seemed the perfect home for Renato’s new full-length record, his first in five years. Funkoholic closes the loop in a musical sense, allowing Renato the scope to fully realise his potential while setting out a musical doctrine that merges deep techno, funk, dub, jazz and ambience in a truly idiosyncratic manner. The album consists of nine tracks, each linked by elegantly crafted ambient transitions that leave the listener in a state of suspended animation. This constant alternation between inner space and outer space is one of the albums defining features, balancing style and content in equal measures. It also allows Renato to patiently strip down his arrangements something thats not always possible on a single track or EP to reveal the complex internal workings of ideas that have clearly evolved through endless late-night sonic excursions. His music has always sung in a language of its own: the chord progressions, fat, rolling bass lines and quirky rhythms instantly recognisable to anyone acquainted with his sound. Here, though, he takes the formula one step further, inviting jazz guitarist Carlo Ditta and trumpeter Mario Massa to add their virtuosity to the proceedings. In fact, their classy improvisations dominate the opening section of the album, adding an additional dimension to the epic soundscapes of Underpool and the raw, shuffling title track Funkoholic, while Neville Attrees commentary on the double-edged nature of obsession lends anymore a dark, brooding energy. Switching to autopilot, And Again is a fine example of how peripheral elements from one track can slowly move to the foreground to become the central focus of the next, while Buck a Guy returns to classic Figoli territory, turning the screw with a twisting acid loop designed to bounce on through till morning. Renatos in no hurry to tear up the dancefloor, however, as Call One slows things down to a deep, throbbing groove, again utilising Dittas deft finger work in a spontaneous merging of minds that could only emanate from Sardinian shores. Super Lemon Vapor dives even deeper into the subconscious with tripped out metallic FX skipping and sliding through the hidden gateway to a smokers paradise. This all sets the scene for one final push as the twin forces of Morning and Night Express up the tempo in a powerful burst of cyclic energy. Turbulence or not, when Renatos at the controls, the crowd will be out of their seats and dancing in the aisles. Thank you for flying with AMAM and we wish you a pleasant journey…
