Ever since he burst onto the scene in 1997, Fred Everything’s sumptuous deep house productions have been shot through with soul. Even so, this collaboration with vocalist Jinadu – best known for his work with Jimpster and Christian Prommer – is more soulful than most of his output. With its’ bittersweet chords, fluid synth bass, smooth groove and weary vocal, “Searching” is more contemplative than celebratory, but much better for it. The accompanying Lazy Dub is tasty, too, while the two included remixes from South African producer Jazzuelle take the track in different directions. The first (“Remix”) is an Osunlade/Atjazz style dreamy, shuffling affair, while the Darkside Dub drags the track further towards late night floors by combining key vocal packages with a murky groove.
