Natural Rhythm are Thomas White and Pete Williams and their tracks have been secret weapons in Robsoul boss Phil Weeks’ DJ sets for over a decade. On Tribute, he reissues some of his personal favourites. Said to be born in a garage in Los Angeles in the late ’90’s, you can hear that Natural Rhythm was a meeting of passionate musical minds who created their own style, with releases on local imprints such as Seasons Recordings, Earthtones and their own eponymous imprint. “Something Big” starts out with with their signature funky disco loops in full effect; they’re really at home on Robsoul! “Chicago Nights” is an edit of a certain Billy Ocean classic that we can never get enough of, while “Energized” rocks that really deep and funky bass over smooth Rhodes and tribal drums sampled from a certain Submission track.
