Manucci’s Mistress maestro James “VRRS” Vorres has been off our radar for a while, having been eerily silent since delivering “The Happy Hour” EP in June 2017. Whatever he’s been up to, it’s clear from this new triple-header that he’s spent some serious time in the studio. Opener “MK249C2” is a bouncy, loose-limbed analogue treat, where sparse electronic melodies, ragga-man vocal samples and booming analogue bass dance enthusiastically atop a garage-influenced house groove. The producer’s peak-time inspirations are explored further on “BTFRDY1122”, an acid-powered roller rich in hazy, warehouse-friendly riffs and rubbery beats, while “LCHMY” is a warm and woozy, tech-tinged deep house workout that balances energetic, hypnotic beats with rich, picturesque melodic refrains.
