Unknown Mobile is the lesser-known recording alias of Levi Bruce, a DJ, musician and producer based in Vancouver. Interestingly, Bruce seemingly shares some of the same inspirations and influences as other deep house producers from the laidback Canadian city, because Mixed Use is full of tracks that ripple with drifting, ambient-minded instrumentation, warm jazz-funk style basslines, super-dreamy chord sequences, dubby house beats and ricocheting, late night percussion hits. All six tracks are superb in their own way, though our favourites include the becalmed, gently pulsing early morning shuffle of “The Juggler (Dog Day Dub)”, the jazzy, sun-kissed deep house warmth of “Four Sided Pebble” (think Jack J, and you’re close) and the ultra-spacey bliss of “Shoreline Dub”.
