There’s a lot to like about this debut EP from Soultage. Given that this is their first release, there’s something particularly impressive about the warm, fuzzy chords, classic U.S deep house beats, tactile synth bass and soulful vocal samples of opener “Old School Love”. The woozy, sparkly and hazy “Soulful Damage” is equally as comforting and attractive, while jazzy closer “Warm Up The Place” sees them dip the tempo, layer up the organic-sounding percussion, emphasize the bass and get busy with a variety of contrasting solos (think muted trumpets, and vintage synthesizers). To make an excellent EP even more desirable, Jacques Renault has also provided a typically rich, atmospheric and bumpin’ remix of “Soulful Damage”.
