Swiss veteran and Cadenza co-founder Quenum brings us a tech-house EP that’s about as far from the colour-by-numbers, sample-pack variety favoured by sleeve-tattooed Ibiza/Miami “bros” as you can get. ‘Briggs Street’ starts out with a blues-y vocal lament, then spends the next five minutes building and building but never QUITE resolving. The psychobabble spoken vocal and deep Afro drums of ‘Step By Step’ could work just about everywhere from soulful house to techno floors just as long as it’s 4am, ‘Small Brains’ leans towards straight-up techno, and finally ‘Batman Wake Up’ delivers a dose of classic twitchy, glitchy minimalism. Classy stuff.
