Plus Plus is back with their annual compilation for the summer of 2016. Keeping it real with some label favorites (Re-Drum, Unfug) it also showcases some hot new artists (Mathew Anderson, Juni Staub) among others. Compiled by Jason Bay, Plus Plus label manager, DJ and producer as well as a featured artist. Opening up the compilation is PatriceVanDenBerg with his melancholy San Fernando. Spacious broken beats feature smooth synths over top. The track has a freestyle flow (versus rhythm based precise loops) with a hypnotic feel. Re-Drums Plénitude Amnésique picks up the pace with keys layered over pads creating a bed for the organic drums to sit on top of. Lange Schattens The Wolf was the first track signed to the compilation, the one that set the tone for every other track to be signed after it. The natural sounding organic groove shows touches of brass, creating a warm space with a sense of nobility. After a massive hit on Gioms Supremus Records, Mathew Anderson is showing his range as an artist with Wren. A subtle shuffling beat lays the ground work for electric guitars and rhythmic percussions over top, keeping the track focused and moving. Jason Bay shows a deep and spacious sound on Barcelona. Celtic harps accentuate a loopy, hypnotic female vocal cooing gently underneath the track, a pulsing energy wrapped in tranquility. Juni Staub hails from Russia, with Magenta Fields, a dubbed out techno workout while incorporating organic elements. Large and spacious, you could get lost in the atmosphere, but will keep your way with the anchoring bottom-end throbbing. Matt McLean creates a spacious, dubbed out atmosphere here with Burning Fog. Creating a wall of sound start to finish, the bassline has a nice bounce to it while the analog rich pads modulate lightly over top to create that trademark McLean sound. Jason Bay has teamed up with long time friend and recent studio partner Screendoor on their latest track, A Love Letter to LV. A more traditional mid tempo house groove with and a deep, subby bass punctuating the arrangement. The analog inspired arpeggio line opens and evolves to give it character and direction. A New York DJ and Producer, Remove Hyphen showcases her first original on Plus Plus, and she has perfectly captured the essence of the label with Blackout Sweet. A heavy, 808 driven groove lays the groundwork for the bouncy stabs over top with the muted highs pushing the track along building this understated tension waiting to be released. Kwal follows up with The Soul, a drum machine driven deep house affair with a deep rolling bassline and a filtered female vox underneath that opens up as the track progresses along. Sam Jaspersohn takes us down a k-hole with This Must Be The Placce”, the kind of production that come from years of DJing, perfectly capturing the tension of the dance floor, never letting up with its throbbing bassline and plucky synths over top with the pitched down male vocals in the background background. Jason Bay is back once more with friends in tow. Amanda Elizabeth and Michael Vilione have teamed up with Jason Bay to create Cool Mint. With Amanda and Michael drawing influence from their tag team sets, Cool Mint is all about the tight groove and galloping percussion with the sub bass accenting the arrangement. The keys floating over top with the strings give it a sense of air and space while the running synth gels it all together. Label favorite Nathan Wool is back with Basscut, an unapologetic house tune that just keeps pushing from the start. With a heavy, militant beat off the bat, listen for the hint of a a plucky bassline, allowing the drums to shine over top with the dubbed out, acid-esque synth line. Unfug & Drivepitcher are at it again with Moths. The duo bring an unusual dancefloor killer to the table. Watchout for the big bassline, with an even heavier kick along side of it. Unfugs signature guitars are back, creating an eerie atmosphere over top with sharp, pronounced percussion piercing it. Finishing off this adventure we have Chlorophyll, who offers something a bit different from his usually tech house inspired offerings, but still maintains those tight, crisp highs that is his signature. Golden is a stripped down house affair, with a big boomy kick creating a bed that tags along with the bassline. The keys are the core musical element, growing and evolving the whole way through with synths being layered on top to accent the arrangement. And just as subtly as the track started, it gently fades out, bringing the whole compilation to a resolved end.
