St Etienne-based HateLate has delivered some of the most impressive releases on Ondule Recordings to date. This is his third outing for the label, and adds a little more low-end grunt to his swinging drums and melodious deep house textures. He begins with the energetic dancefloor bump of “The Buzz” – all sweaty drums and drowsy lead lines – before expertly chopping up warm bass, chiming melodies and fizzing cymbals on the impressively restless “Loop & Dance”. The rich, minor key chords return on the off-kilter deep house swing of “Luv Ritual”, before he doffs a cap to classic disco house on the wonderfully low slung, bass-heavy thump of “Backroom ’84”.
