Given the fact that Acid Arab man Herve Carvalho makes up half of Parisian duo Acid Square Dance, it’s perhaps unsurprising that two out of the three cuts on their Macadam Mambo debut rock to the distinctive sound of the “303”. Both are thrillingly raw, with lead cut “Cassian” – think Hieroglyphic Being with a distinctive twist, and you’re close – being particularly robust. There’s a little more melodic flavour to “Housid”, though it still jacks to the sound of late ’80s Chicago. Equally as impressive – if a lot deeper and hazier – is flipside “Summer Jam”, which sounds like an analogue fetishist’s take on rainbow-coloured Balearica.
