Toeing a fine line between fractal, freeform psychedelia and ‘floor-ready function, the En Asie EP is a mercurial gem that could easily be compared to work by VHS Head, Oneohtrix Point Never, or Patten, yet feels less conceited and more effortlessly pop than any of the above.
Between the basketball court squeaks and power drums of Bienvenue – Kangei and the KGB Man-style screw of Au revoir – Mata Ne, he f**ks with early ‘90s American sitcom funk in Shanpan, and what sounds like some dreamy J-pop gem in Aji, along with the breezy charms of Oyogu, amounting to one of the canniest EPs of 2016 so far.
