Nicolas Jaar’s Clown & Sunset label welcomes Acid Pauli to their number with a tripped-out, kooky album of Bavarian dub and arabesque offbeats. I can’t say i’m that familiar with Martin Gretschmann’s work under this moniker, but we’ve always had a soft spot for his records as Console and with The Notwist. So it’s hard to tell if he always sounded very much like his label boss or made this album in his image. Either way, it’s inescapably similar to Jaar’s sound, imbued with a rich palette of dusty samples and musical quirks which slink around the topic of low-lung House and downbeat, even trip hop-indebted rhythms.
