Parisian label FKR is doing its’ best to keep the French disco-house flame alive. While the “French touch” producers of old merely sampled classic boogie and disco material, FKR blends disco-house beats and production (most prominently extensive use of filter effects) with more extensive use of period source material. This latest missive from label regular Mastercue is a perfect example. Opener “Ghetto Disco” delivers a rolling, bongo-laden house version of a lesser-known disco classic of the same name, while “NYC Movin” offers a deeper vision of low-slung, string-laden disco-funk. Finally, “Get Over” moves further towards French Touch territory, adding some Tiger & Woods style edit chops and pitched-up vocals to get the party moving.
