Having recently impressed with the chugging, Balearic disco bliss of “Joy Of Life” on No Static Recordings, Ilya Santana returns “home” to the Santa Esperanza label he founded some years back. “The Day Before You Leave Me” is reminiscent of his early work on Balihu and Permanent Vacation, combining deliciously Balearic pads and loved-up synth chords with ear-catching melodies, glistening guitar touches and a gently pulsating, slo-mo groove. There’s a slightly creepier feel to virtual flipside “Dimensions”, where ’80s horror influences, chiming melodies and Vangelis style synthesizer atmospherics stretch out over a head-nodding, 100 BPM rhythm track.
