Conquest One is a pitch-black industrial powerhouse built to seek and destroy. Subjected uses heavy distortion and machined motifs to create a genuine warehouse experience.

Starting off is “Nastes”, a merciless and emotionally detached arrangement. Tailored to penetrate any Birmingham or Berlin style bomb shelter with heavy Panzer style kicks, explosive recoils and scattered metallic shrapnel. “Conquest 1” is a dreary aftermath filled with obscure hypnotic vocals and disfigured rhythms, blanketed in an electric dust cloud of complexities. Gerd Janson and Phillip Lauer’s “Tuff City Kids Style Edit” finishes up this full-fledge package with a less distorted, peak-time analog interpretation of the original.

Kiev’s premier house label Wicked Bass return in superb fashion, lending a debut to the unheralded Italian producer Raw MT whose Raw Music Theory EP demonstrates the Venetian should be added to the long list of accomplished house and techno producers that surface from the district. Lead track “Walkman Is Dead” sets the tone, with a deeply saturated bed of Carpenter-style synth loops intermittently rampaged by terrorising kick drums, while the producer’s penchant for texture and melody is displayed further on the deeper track “Sara”. L.I.E.S. fanatics will no doubt gravitate towards this release due to the pair of accompanying remixes from Miami wunderkind Greg Beato and he does a splendid job of reconfiguring Raw MT’s work in his own weird and rhythmically maniacal manner – the Trippinn Remix of “Walkman Is Dead” is superb!

Ecstasy & Release represents the debut album from Lisbon legend Tiago Miranda, arriving under the TNT Subhead name. Warmly regarded in his homeland for the weekly 7 hour plus DJ sets he’s been holding down at Lisbon club Lux for some fifteen years, Miranda has enjoyed an equally illustrious, not to mention varied, production career over the past decade. He’s perhaps best known for his output as Tiago but beyond this, Miranda’s work has covered a broad span of projects and styles, which includes a stint in the krautrock meets Detroit techno of Portuguese group Gala Drop, as well as downtempo fare on ESP Institute as Sea Power and Change. Miranda himself describes the eight track Ecstasy & Release as his “first solo rocket” containing “ghosts of my life transcribing their emotions into techno”. Truly compelling listening from one of the most under rated producers working today!
