Tricked-out techno killers from Dan Jugel and Beau Wanzer’s new Juzer duo on Anthony Parasole’s label. The New York force is strong on this one with four no-nonsense pounders built for optimal effect. A-side fires up a vintage Regis-styled weapon in ‘Couch Mover’ and almost PCP-strength kicks synched to rail-gunning 16th note hi-hat attacks on ‘Horseplay’. It’s been a fair while since Radioslave’s Matt Edwards teamed up with Joel Martin for some excursions to the Quiet Village so kudos to the Phonica crew for coaxing these two cuts out of the pair for their Phonica White series. It’s a case of two halves here with lead track “Social Music” a deep, hypnotic groover whose 9 minutes plus wouldn’t sound out of place a few hours into a session with Riccy Villalobos. On the flip Edwards and Martin evoke a different kind of psychedelia with the drum heavy druggy chugger “Change” with all manner of expert reverb applied.

Review
Richard Zepezauer’s Nysde label was founded back in 2010 to deliver “timeless techno, true house and beyond”. While that’s a bold claim, there’s certainly something timeless about Kevin Reynolds 2011 release on the label and N Syde’s latest is just as impressive. Mobach’s “At The Mines of Planet” is particularly spacious, coming on like an effortlessly hypnotic fusion of Motor City futurism and trance-inducing German dub techno. It’s the aural equivalent of drifting through space with the sound of tactile techno rhythms ringing in your ears. Reade Truth’s “Blessings of Luh” continues the sci-fi theme, layering what sounds like recordings of astronauts and evocative, subdued melodies over a chunky, acid-flecked groove.
