The Las-Vegas based Riff Raff imprint launches its Limited vinyl series this February with ‘Money Dish’ by David Scuba and Mikael Stavostrand, backed with a remix from Superfreq’s Mr.C. The Riff Raff imprint has picked up support along the way from the likes of Nitin, wAFF, Lee Foss and Diskjokke to name a few and here the label introduces its limited vinyl series, delivering more unique and twisted grooves. Title track ‘Money Dish’ opens the release, a low-slung, edgy cut driven by stripped, loose drums, a penetrating subby bass-line and a spoken word vocal. The track progressively blossoms for the duration of the first half before a psychedelic synth line and chuggy guitar licks are introduced the centre stages, rounding it off as a rather unique house record with sprinklings of electronica. Next up is Richard West aka Mr.C’s ‘Vocal Remix’, introducing punchy, rolling 808 style drums and reinterpreting the original to a more sparse state. The focus is tipped towards trippy, heady grooves with drawn out breakdowns, retro synths and a profound background depth once again creating something captivating and forward thinking. Following is ‘Mr. Lettuce Hands’, an organic number employing warm, natural bass licks, simple yet effective drum programming and raw, aggressive analogue synth lines, all cleverly modulated for its just over seven minute duration to create an ever-evolving dynamic. To close the release the duo turn in ‘Willie White Pants’, an instantly attention grabbing cut that storms in with a warbling, dub-style bass-line. This plays the lead part of the track as its cut off falters throughout and eerie ethereal pad lines smoothly flow around it.

Dubspeeka has created a worthy EP that kicks off with Kilimanjaro that is effortlessly thrilling. The drums and bass section give this track a groove that is broken down with some devastating synth stabs that will keep any dance floor pulsing at 5am. Falling Skies has a different vibe to Kilimanjaro but keeps the dark dubspeeka vibe that he is synonymous for. This tripped out dubby track will keep has a uniquely enticing bass line that will tear through any sound system and devastate dance floors. Half Life uses heavy hitting percussion stabs and sparse vocal phrases to create a distinctive feel that is followed by the flute-like lead line. The fourth and final track on the EP, Possession yet again delivers something different with a more melodic approach that shows dubspeekas versatility as a producer into more thought provoking tracks.

First VA Compilation of the year for Gooseneck Records showcasing artists like Marco Darko, Dakin Auret, Thomas De Lorenzo, Zuckre, Paul Stott and Denis Yashin and their many different musical styles across 18 tracks. It all kicks off with Marco Darko’s ‘Any Kind Of Fun’, a nice loose opener with a bulbous bassline and plenty of louche percussive energy. From there, the likes of Igluu touches on woozy, downbeat house that works you into an afterparty styled trance, Paul Scott lays down some killer bouncy basslines and nicely slapping kick drums and Thomas de Lorenzo strips things back to a deep tech mood where snares hang free in big open spaces and scanning synths look to the future as a molten bassline rises up and down through the mix. Dakin Auret’s contribution is a tight and bobbling house number driven by a simple but effective bassline and Moyu ups the tempos with his scraping garage like percussion and big rubbery kick drums. All in all there is plenty to love about the many different shades of house that Gooseneck offer up, with plenty of dancefloor dynamite sure to make it into the bags of the wisest DJs
