With releases on the likes of Supplement Facts, Hypercolour and My Favourite Robot records already behind him, Lomez is a man who requires little introduction to fans of the discerning side of the electronic music spectrum. Together with his production partner Symbol (and, of course, Noir), he also enjoyed one of Pete Tong’s Essential New Tunes of 2013 thanks to ”Lost Again”, a stunning record that rightly saw him draw praise from numerous quarters.
He follows up the latter here with an equally stunning EP on fledgling Spanish imprint Sub_Urban, with Always On Time, an EP that again goes some way to explaining his diversity and his confidence behind the production desk. A brisk walk through the realms of contemporary house and disco, the original is a bassline-loaded slice of funk that showcases the producers’ signature deep, soulful and sexy sound with some aplomb, while Symbol’s sultry vocal contribution helps lend it an added dose of emotion.
The second of the two originals is another laid back gem, with ”Allegehny” the sort of track that basks in a warm, summery glow. Catchy and always discerning, its dancefloor credentials are impeccable. Sebas Ramis & Guri then team up for the first of the remixes, with ”Always On Time” brought to a spiky, more whimsical and sun-glistened place. Finally, Symbol’s soulful vocals make for a memorable late night affair, and they’re given a whole new dimension on Gaol’s remix, whereby the producer goes slightly off-kilter in search of his kicks. In all, it’s majestic stuff throughout.

For its #90 release, Natural Rhythm sends out its scouters all the way to Brooklyn, New York, for an EP created by no more than 3 excellent producers: Eskuche, Nu Sky and Nathan Kersaint! This powerfull trio tries and manages to define a perfect tech house sound to match the City That Never Sleeps: full of energy, with a jerky rhythm and a subtle bassline over the synthetized voices running wild perfectly picturing the sexy new york clubbing athmosphere: smoke machines synchronized on the breaks and strobes punching every single reverb from the tracks. The acapellas included with this EP should prove to be a useful DJ tool, also 😉

Resident Paper munter and self soiler Flash Atkins is back with a second EP of collaborations. The first found favour with people like Danny Krivit, Bill Brewster, Crazy P and Moodymanc and was heard playing everywhere from The Warehouse Project to Croatian boat parties. Flash?s first studio victim was young gun Chris Massey which resulted in a deep tribal house throbber that?s heavy on atmosphere as the first half builds around an arp, sub and subterranean percussion. For the drop the mood lightens with a Rhodes and 80s synth line as all the elements are re-introduced for maximum dancefloor dynamics. Daco?s head was next on the Flash?s studio block and their track Vowerk is named after a breed of chicken. Fact. It?s a super-heavy slice of main room tech-house built around a distorted arped bass that summons up the spirit of John Ciafone and Mood II Swing. Manchester veteran Neil Diablo didn?t know what he was getting in to and by the time he?d worked it out they were two tracks down. Nezulka is deep house at it?s finest and on a Hot Creations tip but without the whiff of sunglasses in nightclubs. Swinging drums and analogue bass keep it ticking over before the synths in the second half mellow things out to drag you out the K hole you may have been sliding in to. The EP is rounded off with some 90s vibing house that?s got a bit of Balearic business going on. With samples firing off the track builds to the break where the organ does it?s sunset thing. But wait, is that a male vocal singing ?Hey Yeah? as the drums drop? By golly it is and doesn?t it sound fine!

What happens when Calor’s appetite for underground house music blends with Anna Wall’s passion for quality deep house? A 4-acts story that presents us the so-many different forms of electronic music! Everything begins with Between and a stomped rhythm, disturbed just a tiny bit by the feminine voice as Do You Remember throws us in the middle of the dancefloor with its classic deep house sound full of 90’s reminiscents. And if this is not enough, the 2 brits raise the rhythm up to a confortable tech house with Downstr, then sliding down the nostalgic scale but saving the energy with Feverish Propositions
