In and amongst the many labels and projects that Analogue Copper Lucretio has immersed himself in over the years, the Machines State operation is a platform for the Berlin-based Italian to express himself fully in a solo capacity. Founded back in 2011, Machines State has lived up to it’s stated MO of “all tracks recorded on Hardware Machines, mixed on Analogue Desks, recorded on Tape and released on Vinyl Polymers”. If you’ve indulged in one of the four previous Machines State releases you should have an idea of what to expect from the Ile De La Tour EP as Lucretio plays with Motown samples and classic house rhythms across the three tracks. “Arcade Affair” is positively delightful and light in its execution, which only seems to magnify the frenzied and frazzled sampling of the two B Side tracks with “What We Mean” particularly satisfying.

Here’s something different from Local Talk: an EP from Cologne-based twosome Hade & Gutta that fuses the imprint’s usual classic US house influences with the unmistakable boom of UK bass music. Opener “Nothing Wrong” is the real killer, a rambunctious fusion of speaker-rattling sub, punchy US garage vocal samples and relentless stabs. “In Me” is noticeably deeper, with classic strings and bubbling electronics riding a shuffling but potent groove. Finally, Hade goes solo on “Baphome”, an ultra-deep excursion blessed with shimmering chords, sparse-but-heavy rhythms and some choice hip-hop vocal samples. It’s the EP’s most laidback moment, but it still packs some serious punch.

Art Department have released details of their second album, Natural Selection, due for release via No.19 Music.
The LP will be the follow-up to The Drawing Board, which launched the Canadian duo’s career in 2011. Full details are yet to surface, though as reported by FACT, the new record sees Jonny White and Kenny Glasgow getting to grips with a “more mature and experimental sound.” Two collaborators have been unveiled thus far: Aquarius Heaven and Seth Troxler will sing on “‘Kisses For Roses” and “Cruel Intentions” respectively. The album will hit the shops in November.
In support of the release, Art Department will embark on an extensive world tour later this month, taking in shows at Panorama Bar, fabric and Creamfields Buenos Aires among many others.

Parisian producer Rhythm&Soul has been bubbling away on the deep house underground for some time, having released his first 12″ back in 2011. Here, he pops up on occasional collaborator Jef K’s long running Silver Network imprint. “1998” is in many ways typical of his output, with subtle disco licks, dreamy chords and looped, filtered vocal samples riding a swinging, Chez Damier style groove. The original is joined by a trio of remixes, with Claap and One Records regular John Dimas particularly impressing with his chunky, bass-heavy and pleasingly percussive rub. Elsewhere, Djebali weighs in with two versions: a lush, dreamy, Circulation style Remix, and a deeper, bass-heavy Dub. Both are deliciously warm and melodic.

Mulen is releasing its second LP and next to the shifty beats and crafty sounds, its full of mystery too. No one heard of the name Silat Beksi before, though the artist is no stranger to the scene. Silat prefers to keep his identity incognito (for the time being) to let 8th reality infiltrate our present with no influences of past productions. The history of music knows more artists walking down this road and just a few who have really made it. Let’s hope for Silat this try around is a successful one. 8th reality is taking Mulen towards more experimental territory. Silat Beksi is pushing the artistic envelop without being abstract, the sound is full of charisma and definitely working the crowd. Deep house influences edging with breaks and hip-house, when some roots go the Chicago scene back in the 90th. It is a fully captivating album worth a listen.

Despite his young age, Jona has already released on Planet E and Get Physical – and is preparing his debut album. This release on Steve Bug’s label shows that his musical ability belies his youth. The title track is a nagging, filtered house groove in the Relief/Sneak vein, while “Emerge” is based on a similar backing.
